 Introduction

The records of St. John Catholic Church, 1914 - 2002, were transferred for microfilming to the Center for Archival Collections, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio 43403, in May 2002, with the cooperation of Reverend Francis J. Speier of St. John Catholic Church.

The collection consists of baptisms*, first communions, confirmations, marriages* and deaths. Due to inconsistencies in pagination and transcription of data, researchers are encouraged to refer to all volumes within each series. (See order of microfilming for a detailed list of these records.) Some text is in Latin.

This register and this collection was prepared by Rachel Diegel in May 2002.

*There is a seventy (70) year access restriction on baptism and marriage records. No restrictions apply to the remainder of this collection.

 Agency History

St. John Catholic Church began as a Mission church of St. Michael Catholic Church in 1914. In September of that year the parish completed their church building. The parish of St. John received their first resident pastor in 1918. His name was Father Francis B. Bruksieker.

In 1919, the parish completed the erection of their new church and school buildings. During the years of the Great Depression, membership declined slightly. Following the Depression and World War II many new homes were built in Point Place and the membership of the parish grew. With the influx of the population into Point Place it became evident that a new school and church building would be needed. In 1951, a new school was built and several additions have been built on since. The parish's current church was completed in 1966.
