Introduction
The records of St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1889 - 2000, were transferred for microfilming to the Center for Archival Collections,
Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio 43403, in October 2001, with the cooperation of Father Robert Kill of
St. Joseph Catholic Church.
The collection consists of baptisms*, first communions, confirmations, marriages*, and deaths. Due to inconsistencies in pagination and transcription of data, researchers are encouraged to refer to all volumes
within each series. (See order of microfilming for a detailed list of these records.)
This register and this collection was prepared by Jennifer Golis in November 2001.
*There is a seventy (70) year access restriction on baptism and marriage records. No restrictions apply to the remainder of
this collection.
Agency History
In the early 1880's, Catholics in North Creek attended church in New Bavaria, eight miles away. These Catholics wanted a church
of their own because of the long and difficult journey to New Bavaria. In 1886, these Catholics petitioned the Bishop of the
Diocese for the right to build their own church. In 1887, permission was given. In that same year the parish built their first
and only church. It is a small framed building that is located on three acres. Even with the building of the church, the Catholics
in North Creek still had to travel to New Bavaria because there were no priests to serve the small church. It was not until
1889 that a priest began visiting the parish. Between 1889 and 1915, St. Joseph was a Mission of Holgate. In 1915, the Mission
was transferred to Continental. In 1976, the Mission was transferred to New Bavaria. St. Joseph is currently a sister parish
with St. John the Baptist, Continental and St. Barbara, Cloverdale.
