Introduction
The records of Assumption Catholic Church, 1868 - 2001, were transferred for microfilming to the Center for Archival Collections,
Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio 43403, in September 2001, with the cooperation of Father John Nagele of
Assumption Catholic Church.
The collection consists of baptisms*, first communions, confirmations, marriages*, and deaths. Due to inconsistencies in pagination and transcription of data, researchers are encouraged to refer to all volumes
within each series.
This register and this collection was prepared by Jennifer Golis in October 2001.
*There is a seventy (70) year access restriction on baptism and marriage records. No access restrictions apply to the remainder
of this collection.
Agency History
Assumption Catholic Church began in 1867, when 20 families from the St. Michael parish in Thompson built their own church
in Reed, Ohio. Their first church was completed in the fall of 1867. This parish was served, as a Mission, by St. Michael
Catholic Church.
In 1903, Assumption received their first resident priest, Father Constantine Vogelman. In 1907, the parish's first church
burned to the ground. The congregation chose to rebuild the church and it was completed in 1908.
In 1985, Assumption became a sister parish of St. Michael Catholic Church in Thompson, now know as Marywood, Ohio.
