 Introduction

The records of St. Peter Catholic Church, 1890 - 2001, were transferred for microfilming to the Center for Archival Collections, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio 43403, in June 2001, with the cooperation of Reverend Edward J. Littelman of St. Peter Catholic Church, Huron, Ohio.

The collection consists of baptisms*, first communions, confirmations, Book of the Elect, marriages*, and deaths. Due to inconsistencies in pagination and transcription of data, researchers are encouraged to refer to all volumes within each series. (See order of microfilming for a detailed list of these records.)

This register and this collection was prepared by Jennifer Golis in June 2001.

*There is a seventy (70) year access restriction on baptism and marriage records. No restrictions apply to the remainder of this collection.

 Agency History

St. Peter Catholic Church began as a Station of Peru, OH in 1834. It remained a Station of Peru until 1839. After that St. Peter became a Station of several different churches throughout Northwest Ohio until 1890. Between 1834 and 1890 mass was held in the home of private citizens.

In 1890, St. Peter's first church was completed. When the church was completed the parish became a Mission of Vermilion. In 1902, the pastor from Vermilion, Father N.W. Horst, became St. Peter's first resident pastor. With this Vermilion became a Mission of Huron.

Due to a growing congregation through the years a new church was completed in 1969. It is still in use today.
