Introduction | Agency History | Order of Microfilming

Introduction

The records of St. Michael Catholic Church 1850 - 2001 were transferred for microfilming to the Center for Archival Collections, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio 43403, in March 2001, with the cooperation of Reverend Mike Hohenbrink of St. Michael Catholic Church and Frank Beier of the Catholic Diocese of Toledo, Ohio.

The collection consists of baptisms* first communions, confirmations, marriages*, sick records and deaths. Due to inconsistencies in pagination and transcription of data, researchers are encouraged to refer to all volumes within each series. (See order of microfilming for a detailed list of these records.) Some records are in Latin, German or Spanish.

This register and this collection were prepared by Jennifer Golis in March 2001.

*There is a seventy (70) year access restriction on baptism and marriage records. No restrictions apply to the remainder of this collection.

Agency History

St. Michael Catholic Church in Findlay, Ohio began as a Station of Tiffin, Ohio in 1839. In 1860, the parish's first church was completed. The church received its first resident pastor, Father John Roetzger, in 1859. The Parish school opened in 1860.

In 1866, a fire destroyed the church, school and parochial residence. The current church replaced the one destroyed in the fire. It was completed in 1867. The parochial residence was rebuilt in 1875. The school building was rebuilt in 1894.

In 1870, St. Michael became a Mission of Fostoria. It remained a Mission of Fostoria on and off until 1881, when Findlay received a resident pastor. From 1881 a resident pastor has served St. Michael Catholic Church.
