 Introduction

The records of St. Peter Catholic Church 1858-2000 were transferred for microfilming to the Center for Archival Collections, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio 43403, in February 2001, with the cooperation of Reverend James L. Holmer of St. Peter Catholic Church and Frank Beier of the Catholic Diocese of Toledo, Ohio.

The collection consists of baptisms*, first communions, confirmations, marriages* and deaths/interments. Due to inconsistencies in pagination and transcription of data, researchers are encouraged to refer to all volumes within each series. (See order of microfilming for a detailed list of these records.) Some of these records are in Latin or German.

This register and this collection were prepared by Jennifer Golis in February 2001.

*There is a seventy (70) year access restriction on baptism and marriage records. No restrictions apply to the remainder of this collection.

 Agency History

St. Peter Catholic Church was formed in 1847. Priests from the Sanguinist Order served this church as a mission until 1865. In 1857, the first church was built. In 1865, the congregation received their first resident pastor, Father Bernard Quinn. He stayed until October of 1865. At this time Father Gerhart Spierings was assigned as pastor and St. Mary of Kirby, OH became a mission of St. Peter Catholic Church. It remained a mission until 1874. In 1976, St. Mary became a sister parish of St. Peter and one pastor served both.

In 1869, a new church was built to replace the overcrowded church. That church soon became overcrowded as well and a new building was erected in 1879. This church is still in use today.
