Introduction

The historical records of the Sylvania United Church of Christ were transferred for microfilming to the Center for Archival Collections in August 1991 with the cooperation of Barbara Klein. The collection consists of eighteen volumes of Record Books, minutes of various organizations within the Church, and minutes of community organizations with close ties to the Church. Also included are several written histories and a church directory. The collection spans the dates 1834, when the Church first organized, through 1941. Specifically, the Record Books, dating from 1834 to 1926, include Session minutes and membership information, with some of the membership information such as baptisms and deaths included within the minutes. Organizational records include the Ladies Aid Society minutes, 1897 to 1921; the Congregational Society of Sylvania minutes, 1847 to 1896; the Men's Club of the Congregational Church minutes, 1903 to 1919; the Men's Forum minutes, 1938-1941; the Sylvania Township Sunday School Association minutes, 1892 to 1922; and the Sylvania Women's Christian Temperance Union minutes, 1910 to 1914.

No restrictions exist on the use of this collection; duplication is permitted for research purposes only. The finding aid was prepared by Ann Bowers in August 1991.
