Introduction/History
The Ohio Association of Student Financial Administrators Collection (OASFAA) was donated to the Center for Archival Collections
on February 9, 1990, with the assistance of Deb Heineman, historian for OASFAA. The collection, dating from 1962 to the present,
consists of minutes, reports, correspondence, publications, newsletters, committee reports and conference files. Files from
outgoing officers are sent periodically to the CAC for addition to the OASFAA Collection.
No restrictions exist on the use of this collection and duplication is permitted for research purposes. The collection was
processed and finding aid prepared by Wendy Evans, archival assistant, in August 1995.
The Ohio Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators was established at the Ohio workshop at Hueston Woods on December
5 and 6, 1968. Robert McKay from Bowling Green State University was the first president of this organization.
Previously, financial aid professionals met as part of the Student Financial Aids section of the Ohio College Association.
According to the November 8, 1963 minutes, the Financial Aid to Students Section of the Ohio College Association held a fall
meeting. These meetings continued throughout the sixties. On December 4, 1968, a constitution was proposed to define this
section. The new name of the organization was the Ohio Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators.
The purpose of this organization is to promote "career and personal development of financial aid professionals, cooperation
among higher education and governmental agencies, and outreach (programs) to secondary and other institutions." The main activities
of the organization include conferences, workshops, committees, and publications such as OASFAA directory, newsletter, and
other guides for financial aid. Membership in this organization includes both active members who work with the administration
of financial aid and associate members.
OASFAA is affiliated with the Midwest Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (MASFAA) and the National Association
of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA). OASFAA publishes many publications which have won awards from the national
organization. OASFAA has won NASFAA state awards for its Legislative Advocacy Handbook in 1988, Early Awareness Program in
1989, and Lender Fact Book in 1990.
OASFAA holds conferences in the spring and in the winter. In 1994, the organization celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary
at the spring convention. At this time, a twenty-fifth anniversary scholarship fund was established to provide assistance
to students.

Record Group/Series Description
This collection has been arranged in a traditional arrangement for documents. It has seven record groups with respective series.
This collection includes correspondence, minutes, publications, and reports from OASFAA's officers, committees, regional representatives,
task forces, and conference. Dates span from 1962 to the present with the majority of the records from the periods 1977-1980
and 1987 to the present. The files have been arranged primarily in alphabetical order within each record group and chronologically
within each folder.
The earliest documents include correspondence from 1962-1970 which show how the organization developed. The correspondence
files are the most complete of all the records with dates spanning from 1962 to the present.
Scope and content notes are provided for each record group. Also, box inventories for this collection follow the descriptions.
Folders within this collection have been labeled with a title and inclusive dates. This information also appears in the box
inventory.
PROCEEDINGS
This record group contains the constitution, policies and procedures of the organization, and executive committee proceedings.
PROCEEDINGS-CONSTITUTION
1979-1989.
Arranged chronologically
Series contains drafts of the constitution and proposed changes. Some of the drafts are not dated.
PROCEEDINGS-POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
1987-1989.
Arranged chronologically
This series contains policies and procedures for signing contracts and reimbursements. Also included are legal documents such
as certification of the OASFAA trademark, a copyright registration certificate, and insurance policy forms.
PROCEEDINGS-EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
1976-1983, 1987 to the present.
Arranged chronologically
This series include agendas, minutes, and correspondence for executive committee meetings. Also, records from transition meetings
of the organization (when the executive committee members change) are included.

This record group contains files from OASFAA president, historian, secretary, treasurer, and vice president of training.

This series contains mostly executive committee correspondence. Also included are reports and lists of officers and committee
members. Series contains some of the earliest documents in the collection and spans through most of the years of the organization
with few gaps.

1988-1994.

Series contains correspondence with the Midwest Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (MASFAA) and the National
Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA).

The subject files contain four different series: OASFAA regional files, committee files, task forces/grant programs files,
and conference files.
