 Introduction

The records of St. Mary Catholic Church, 1881 - 2001, were transferred for microfilming to the Center for Archival Collections, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio 43403, in July 2001, with the cooperation of Reverend David D. Tscherne of St. Mary Catholic Church, Junction, Ohio.

The collection consists of baptisms * , first communions, confirmations, Book of the Elect, Rite of Election, marriages * , interments and deaths. Due to inconsistencies in pagination and transcription of data, researchers are encouraged to refer to all volumes within each series. (See order of microfilming for a detailed list of these records.)

This register and this collection was prepared by Jennifer Golis in July 2001.

* There is a seventy (70) year access restriction on baptism and marriage records. No restrictions apply to the remainder of this collection.

 Agency History

St. Mary Catholic Church began as a Station of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Toledo, Ohio around 1846. In 1851, St. Mary was served by St. John Catholic Church in Defiance, Ohio. The parish's first church was built around 1858 and St. Mary became a Mission of St. John. In 1901, St. Mary became a Mission of Paulding, Ohio. In 1911, a new church was built. In 1912, the parish again became a Mission of St. John in Defiance, Ohio. In 1915, St. Mary became a Mission of Delaware Bend. In 1918, St. Mary became a Mission of Cecil. In 1976, the parish became a Mission of St. Mary in Defiance, Ohio. In 1996, St. Mary became a sister parish of St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael Ridge, Ohio and has remained so to the present.
