Introduction
The minutes of The Hancock County Home Demonstration Council, a Women's Home Economics Club spans from 1946 to 1976. The collection
is comprised of club minutes, scrapbooks, files and photos, all of which describe the Council's members and their activities.
This collection was donated and transferred to the Center for Archival Collections in December 1981. The collection was arranged
and finding aid prepared by Laura Calvelage in October 1998.
Agency History
The Hancock County Home Demonstration Council was organized in approximately 1946. The membership was comprised of mainly
farm wives, but some members lived in the city of Findlay. Meetings were held one day each month and a roll call was taken
each time. Officers consisted of a president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer.
The Hancock County Home Demonstration Club meetings were held in either a member's home or at the Hancock County Extension
Office. At each meeting a treasurer's report and a secretary's report were read and old and new business was discussed.
The collection ends around 1976, but it is assumed that the club is still meeting. Basically, the Hancock County Home Demonstration
Council was a way for women to join together for the purposes of learning and socializing.
Scope and Content
The core of the Hancock County Home Demonstration Council Collection is in the Secretary's books, which contain the minutes
of each meeting. These books are useful as they listed who attended the meetings and the officers, and described the activities
in which the members were involved.
Also included in the collection are scrapbooks that contain letters to the organization, newspaper clippings covering the
organization's activities, and photos. They also contain pamphlets, minutes of meetings, and small items the club made, like
Christmas ornaments.
Included in the collection are several folders containing information about the club's activities. These include Achievement
Day, Campus Days for Women, a fair booth at the Hancock County Fair, and a Christmas open house. The files also include information
from the president of the group and mailing lists.
