Introduction
The records of Wingston Grange #2627, Liberty Township, Wood County, Ohio, consist of approximately .5 linear ft. of record
books, a roll book, and miscellaneous papers, dating from 1936 through 1979.
The collection was transferred to the Center for Archival Collections through the cooperation of the Grange and Ralph Seiler
during June 1981. This register was prepared by Marilyn Levinson, Curator of Manuscripts, Center for Archival Collections,
March, 1991. No restrictions exist on the the use of this collection.
Agency History
The Grange, organized on a national, state, county, and local level, combines fraternity, ritual, and business with cultural
and educational programs. Women have been admitted from the beginning as equal members, and a juvenile grange promotes total
family participation in this organization.
The Wingston Grange received dispensation to organize by the National Grange on January 13, 1936, with official enrollment
with the Ohio State Grange on January 15. There were 38 names in the list of charter members in the first roll book of March
23, 1936.
Scope and Content
This collection of Grange records will prove useful to those researchers interested in agricultural and rural studies. While
the minutes in the record books are incomplete, they provide information on officers, membership, dues, programs, and business
conducted. However, this information is in more of an outline format than narrative and thus lacks great detail. The roll
book provides information on members, their addresses, and occupations. The few membership applications give some information
on members, their name, age, and occupation.
