Introduction
The historical records of the First United Methodist Church of Van Wert, Ohio, 1889-1984, were transferred for microfilming
to the Center for Archival Collections in July of 1993 with the cooperation of Phyllis J. Gehres. The collection consists
of two volumes of record books spanning the period from 1889 to 1984. Each volume contains information on baptisms, deaths,
and marriages. No complete membership list is evident; however, the second volume contains annual listings of members who
professed their faith, joined the First United Methodist Church, or transferred to another church. The first volume is arranged
in sections according to the type of information recorded (baptism, marriage, or death), while the second volume is arranged
according to the church's conference year, beginning with 1943-1944 and continuing backwards through 1931-1932. A third volume,
the Minutes of the Quarterly Conference (including the names of members and baptisms), 1840-1856 was filmed and added to this
roll in March 1996. More records relating to this church may be found in MS 75 and MS 582.
No restrictions have been placed on the research use of this collection and duplication is permitted. The collection was prepared
by Monica Manny in July 1993.
