Introduction

The records of the St. Mark's Lutheran Church were transferred for microfilming to the Center for Archival Collections, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio with the cooperation of Reverend A. Otto Baumann and Patricia A. Henry in November 1992.

No restrictions have been placed on the research use of this collection and duplication is permitted. The collection was prepared by Monica Manny in November and December 1992.

Scope and Content

The collection of St. Mark's Lutheran Church consists of six record books containing membership information from approximately 1855 through 1992. The first record book contains sections on baptisms, confirmations, communicants, marriages and deaths for the period from 1884 through 1936. Information recorded in these sections was written in German through 1911; thereafter, information appears in English. This volume also includes a section wherein brief notes pertaining to the church's history were recorded between 1896 and 1970.

The second and third volumes also contain sections wherein information pertaining to members' births, confirmations, marriages and deaths were recorded. The second volume primarily documents the period between 1937 and 1956. The third volume primarily documents the period between 1956 and 1973; however, upon the death of an individual, age was recorded which allows researchers to approximate the date of birth for individuals as early as 1855.

The fourth, fifth and sixth volumes were intended as single item record books. The fourth book contains baptisms for the period from 1961 to 1992. The fifth book contains both deaths and confirmations for the period from 1973 to 1992. Here again, the age of individuals was recorded upon their death and researchers will be able to approximate birth dates as early as 1875. The sixth book contains information on marriages for the period from 1973 to 1992.
