 Introduction

The records of the First United Methodist Church of Van Wert, Ohio were transferred to the Center for Archival Collections on May 26, 1992 with the cooperation of the church's secretary, Phyllis J. Gehrer.

No restrictions exist on the research use of this collection and duplication is permitted. The collection was processed for filming and a register prepared by Monica Manny in June 1992.

 Scope and Content

The records of the First United Methodist Church of Van Wert, Ohio consist of two volumes of Minute Books documenting the period from September 1878 to January 1918.

The first volume contains minutes of the church's quarterly conference held between September 1871 and July 1895. A financial report is regularly included with each meeting session as are the pastor's quarterly reports. Also included within this volume are minutes of meetings of the church stewards and meetings of the church members. Earlier minutes of the quarterly conference may be found in MS 118.

The second volume contains minutes of weekly meetings of the church's Board of Trustees from February 1878 to January 1918. Included within these minutes are statements of accounts payable relative to the construction of a church building.
