Introduction

The Lima Building Trades Council collection was transferred to the Center for Archival Collections on June 20, 1977, by Stephen P. Gietschier, Co-Director of the Ohio Labor History Project, with the cooperation of Robert Wallace. The records include the minutes of regular and executive board meetings, correspondence, financial statements, labor agreements, and wage scales for the years 1937 to 1966, with the bulk of the material specifically covering the period 1940 to 1961.

Literary and property rights have been dedicated to the public and duplication is permitted for the purposes of preservation and scholarly research. Joanne Passet, a graduate assistant employed by the Ohio Labor History Project, processed the collection and compiled the register.

Agency History

Materials documenting the history of the Lima Building Trades Council currently are not available. The Council's office is located (1997) at 4580 S. Dixie Hwy--P.O. Box 1525, Lima, Ohio 45802-1525. Mr. Dave Smith serves as President.

Scope and Content

The regular meeting minutes of the Lima Building Trades Council are available for 1940, 1946-1951, and 1955-1960. The executive board minutes are available for 1950 and 1955-1961. The collection also includes a few minutes of the Allied Labor Council (1947), the Merger Association (1949), a meeting with Standard Oil (1954), and a meeting with the Cary Brothers Contractors (1950). Incoming and outgoing correspondence is scattered and exists for 1937, 1939-1941, and 1943-1966. Financial statements cover the years 1946-1948, 1954-1956, 1958-1959, and 1964. Labor agreements are available for 1946, 1950, 1952, and 1954-1960, while the wage scales exist for 1940, 1944, 1947-1952, 1955, and 1959=1962. Convention bulletins, proceedings, and roll calls of delegates are scattered over the years 1946-1962. Copies of the Ohio State Building and Construction Trades Council Quarterly Bulletin (1952-1953), the 1961 Building and Construction Trades Director, the 1949 by-laws, labor posters, ballots, and a few resolutions complete the collection.
