Introduction

This two cubic foot collection was donated to the Historical Collections of the Great Lakes in two transfers on November 18, 1981 and July 22, 1984. Literary and property rights were dedicated to the public by Robert Weiner of the Triad Salvage Company. Photocopying is permitted for purposes of conservation and research.

Organizational History

In the mid-1970s the Great Lakes vessel scrapping and salvage industry began operating in Ashtabula, Ohio. The ACME Scrap Iron and Metal Company began operating on State Road in 1975. This company closed in 1977. In 1978, Triad Salvage, Inc. opened on East 21st Street under the direction of Robert Weiner. Business was marginally good for less than a decade. Contracts for scrapping the PAUL L. TIETJEN and the G. A. TOMLINSON, in 1980 left the company operation. Business declined by the mid-1980s and the company closed in 1987.
