Infantry Units: 195th Ohio Volunteer Infantry
Infantry units were recruited from all over the state. Those represented in detail here are the ones recruited primarily from northwest Ohio counties and those whose members wrote to local newspapers. More information will be added as it becomes available.
This Regiment was organized at Camp Chase, Ohio from March 14 to 20, 1865, to serve one year. The Regiment arrived at Harper's Ferry on the 25th of March 1865, and after doing garrison duty there a few days went into camp, near Winchester, VA, with the troops of General Hancock. While in this camp, news of Lee's surrender was received and the Regimetn was ordered to Alexandria, VA, where it performed provost and guard duty until December 18, 1865, when it was mustered out in accordance with orders from the War Department.
