Infantry Units: 188th Ohio Volunteer Infantry
Infantry units were recruited from all over the state. Those represented in detail here are the ones recruited primarily from northwest Ohio counties and those whose members wrote to local newspapers. More information will be added as it becomes available.
This Regiment was organized at Camp Chase, Ohio, March 2-4, 1865 to serve one year. On March 4, the Regiment received orders to report to General Thomas at Nashville, TN, where it arrived on the 9th. It was assigned to duty under Brigadier Genera Van Cleve, and ordered to Murfreesboro, TN, where it remained two months, and was then ordered to Nashville, TN, where it remained until September 21, 1865, when it was\ mustered out in accordance with orders from the War Department.
