Roster - Company I, 175th OVI
First Lieutenant William Rummell
William Rummell was commissioned as a 29 year old Second Lieutenant on October
8, 1864 in Co. I, 175th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. The regiment proceeded south to
Tennessee, guarding bridges and blockhouses along the railroad south from
Nashville on the Tennessee & Alabama Railroad. The regiment was heavily
engaged at Franklin and retreated to Nashville but took no further part in
the fighting. Rummell was in command of the company from November 17, 1864 to
June 1865, and was promoted to First Lieutenant to date June 6, 1865 but was
never mustered at that rank. He was mustered out with the regiment on June 27,
1865 at Nashville, Tennessee.
