Lieutenant Colonel John Franz
John Franz enlisted as a 50 year old Lieutenant Colonel of the 101st Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 9, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862. He
was discharged for disability October 14, 1862.

Major John N. Latimer, Company D
John M. Latimer, Jr. enlisted as a 23 year old Second Lieutenant of Company D,
101st Ohio Volunteer Infantry on July 15, 1862, mustering into service August 30,
1862. Following action at the Battle of Stones River, he was commissioned Captain
to date January 28, 1863 and was l;ater commissioned Major to date May 30, 1865,
but was never mustered at that rank. Latimer was mustered out June 12, 1865 at
Camp Harker, Tennessee.

Quartermaster George E. Seney
George E. Seney enlisted as a 32 year old Quartermaster of the 101st Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on July 28, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862. He
was promoted to Captain to date March 19, 1864, but declined the promotion and
resigned his commission November 22, 1864.

Surgeon Thomas M. Cook
Thomas M. Cook enlisted as a 45 year old Surgeon in the 101st Ohio Volunteer
Infantry on August 12, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862. He was
mustered out June 12, 1865 at Camp Harker, Tennessee.

Lieutenant Colonel Bedan B. McDonald
Bedan B. McDonald enlisted as a 32 year old Captain of Company C, 101st Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on July 23, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862.
Promoted to Major to date December 26, 1862, he was captured September 19, 1863
at the Battle of Chickamauga and imprisoned at Libby Prison in Richmond. Promoted
to Lieutenant Colonel upon his release (dated February 18, 1864), he was wounded
in action November 30, 1864 at the Battle of Franklin. McDonald was mustered out
June 12, 1865 at Camp Harker, Tennessee.

Chaplain Oliver Kennedy
Oliver Kennedy was commissioned Chaplain of the 101st Ohio Volunteer Infantry
on September 4, 1862, mustering into service the same day. He resigned
November 17, 1863.

Hospital Steward Samuel Thomas Weirick
Samuel T. Weirick enlisted as a 19 year old Private in Company I, 101st Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 11, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862.
Designated regimental hospital steward, he was discharged for disability January
22, 1863 at Nashville, Tennessee.

Captain Jay C. Butler
Enlisted 7/22/1862 as a Private, promoted to Sergeant 8/30/1862, promoted to
2nd Lieutenant 1/25/1863, promoted to 1st Lieutenant 3/19/1864, wounded
12/15/1865 at the Battle of Nashville, promoted to Captain 2/10/1865,
mustered out with regiment 6/12/1865 at Camp Harker, TN.

Private Francis L. Pease
Francis L. "Frank" Pease enlisted as a 29 year old Private in Company B, 101st
Ohio Volunteer Infantry on August 5, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862.
He was transferred to the 148th Company, 2nd Battalion, Veterans Reserve Corps on
April 6, 1864 and was mustered out June 30, 1865.

Roster - Company C, 101st OVI
Captain Leonard D. Smith
Leonard D. Smith enlisted as a 20 year old First Lieutenant and regiment Adjutant
of the 101st Ohio Volunteer Infantry on August 4, 1862, mustering into service
August 30, 1862. He was promoted to Captain of Company C to date December 26,
1862, and was mustered out June 12, 1865 at Camp Harker, Tennessee.

Captain James M. Roberts
James M. Roberts was born in 1835 and enlisted as a 27 year old Private in
Company C, 101st Ohio Volunteer Infantry on August 15, 1862, mustering into
service August 30, 1862. Roberts was promoted to Second Lieutenant to date
December 31, 1862, and to First Lieutenant to date March 19, 1864, and finally
to the rank of Captain to date February 10, 1865 at transferred to command of
Company K. He was mustered out June 12, 1865 at Camp Harker, Tennessee and died
in 1886. He is buried at Anaheim Cemetery, Orange Co., California.

Sergeant Gilbert M. Newell
Gilbert M. Newell enlisted as a 33 year old Private in Company C, 101st Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 7, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862. He
was promoted to Corporal January 9, 1863, and to Sergeant March 15, 1865 before
mustering out June 12, 1865 at Camp Harker, Tennessee.

Sergeant William H. Williams
William H. Williams enlisted as a 20 year old Private in Company C, 101st Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 7, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862.
Promoted to Sergeant January 9, 1863, he died of disease April 24, 1863 at
Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Corporal Alvin Poundstone
Alvin Poundstone enlisted as a 20 year old Private in Company C, 101st Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 4, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862. He
was promoted to Corporal August 29, 1862 but was reduced to Private on January
31, 1863 at his own request. He was promoted to Hospital Steward to date November
28, 1863, and transferred into the U.S. Army.

Private Jacob B. Myers
Jacob B. Myers enlisted as a 22 year old Private in Company C, 101st Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 7, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862.
He died of disease December 7, 1862 at Bowling Green, Kentucky and is buried at
Nashville National Cemetery.

Private William Allen Sowers
William A. Sowers enlisted as a 20 year old Private in Company C, 101st Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 9, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862. He
died of disease August 6, 1863 at Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Private Jasper N. Taylor
Jasper N. Taylor enlisted as a 25 year old Private in Company C, 101st Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 6, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862. He
was transferred to the Veterans Reserve Corps December 15, 1863 at Louisville, Kentucky.

Captain Ira B. Read, Companies D and E
Ira B. Read enlisted as a 21 year old Sergeant in Company D, 101st Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 9, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862.
He was commissioned First Lieutenant to date January 28, 1863 and was later
promoted to Captain of Company E to date March 19, 1864. He mustered out June
12, 1865 at Camp Harker, Tennessee.

Sergeant Charles H. Mead, Company D
Charles H. Mead enlisted as a 19 year old Private in Company D, 101st Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 11, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862.
He was promoted to Sergeant on March 1, 1864 before transferring to Co. F, 1st
Veteran Volunteer Engineers on July 27, 1864. In that organization, he was
promoted to Sergeant Major to date July 9, 1865 and was mustered out September
26, 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee.

Corporal Justus N. Brown, Company D
Justus N. Brown enlisted as an 18 year old Corporal in Company D, 101st Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on July 29, 1862, mustering into service August 9, 1862. He
was mustered out June 21, 1865 at Cleveland, Ohio.

Captain Lyman Parcher
Lyman Parcher enlisted as a 27 year old First Lieutenant in Company E, 101st
Ohio Volunteer Infantry on July 24, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862.
Promoted to the rank of Captain to date November 15, 1862, he resigned his
commission February 26, 1863. He later enlisted as Captain of Company B, 179th
Ohio Volunteer Infantry on August 24, 1864, mustering into service September 28, 1864.
He was mustered out June 17, 1865.

First Lieutenant Charles McGraw
Charles McGraw enlisted as a 20 year old First Sergeant in Company E, 101st
Ohio Volunteer Infantry on July 23, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862.
Promoted to Second Lieutenant to date November 15, 1862 and to First Lieutenant
to date February 26, 1863, he was killed in action September 19, 1863 at the
Battle of Chickamauga. The following letter from Colonel Isaac M. Kirby gives
the circumstances of his demise.

First Lieutenant William R. Davis
William R. Davis enlisted as a 27 year old Corporal in Company E, 101st Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 15, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862.
Promoted to Commissary Sergeant March 25, 1863, he was later commissioned (but
not mustered) Second Lieutenant to date May 9, 1864. He was promoted to First
Lieutenant to date July 30, 1864 and transferred to Company K, mustering out
June 12, 1865 at Camp Harker, Tennessee.

Sergeant John H. Smalley
John H. Smalley enlisted as a 31 year old Corporal in Company E, 101st Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 2, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862.
Promoted to Sergeant, he died of disease January 27, 1863 at Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Corporal James Halliwell
James Halliwell enlisted as a 21 year old Private in Company E, 101st Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 6, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862.
Promoted to Corporal March 1, 1864, he was wounded in action December 15, 1864
at the Battle of Nashville. Halliwell died of his wounds January 3, 1865 at
Nashville, Tennessee.

Corporal George S. McKee
George S. McKee enlisted as a 21 year old Private in Company E, 101st Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 14, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862.
Promoted to Corporal January 1, 1865, he was mustered out June 12, 1865 at Camp
Harker, Tennessee.

Captain George Washington Hale
George Washington Hale was born March 25, 1833 and enlisted as the First Sergeant of Co. F, 101st Ohio Volunteer Infantry on August 9, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862. He took part in the battle of Stones River and was commissioned Second Lieutenant to date December 23, 1862. He was again promoted to First Lieutenant to date February 17, 1863 before being wounded and captured September 19, 1863 at the Battle of Chickamauga. He was imprisoned for 18 months in Libby and Columbia prisons, escaping three times but being recaptured each time. He was promoted to Captain to date November 3, 1864. He mustered out June 12, 1865 at Camp Harker, Nashville, Tennessee. He died December 6, 1921 and is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Upper Sandusky, Ohio.

Corporal William Halliwell
William Halliwell enlisted as a 32 year old Private in Company F, 101st Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 9, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862.
Promoted to Corporal February 17, 1863, he was discharged May 18, 1865 at
Nashville, Tennessee.

Sergeant Claudius N. Martin
Claudius N. Martin was born March 12, 1843 in Shenandoah Valley, Virginia and
enlisted as a Corporal in Co. F, 101st Ohio Volunteer Infantry on August 9, 1862,
mustering in August 30, 1862. He was promoted to Sergeant February 17, 1863 and
took part in the battles of Stones River, Liberty Gap, Chickamauga, Rocky Face
Ridge, Jonesboro, Franklin, and Nashville before mustering out with the regiment
June 12, 1865 at Camp Harker, Nashville, Tennessee.

Private Squire Abbott
Squire Abbott enlisted as a 25 year old Private in Company G, 101st Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 7, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862.
Captured December 31, 1862 at the Battle of Stones River, he was soon paroled
and was mustered out June 9, 1865 at Columbus, Ohio.

Captain Jesse Shriver
Jesse Shriver enlisted as a 43 year old Captain of Company H, 101st Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on July 29, 1862, mustering into service August 1, 1862. He
was discharged for disability on September 8, 1863 at Columbus, Ohio.

Sergeant George W. Vandenberg
George W. Vandenberg enlisted as a 23 year old Sergeant in Company H, 101st
Ohio Volunteer Infantry on August 7, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862.
Accidentally wounded June 29, 1863, he died of his injuries July 3, 1863 at Manchester,
Tennessee. This letter, written by Captain Leonard D. Smith, explains the
circumstances of his demise.

Sergeant Austin W. Miller
Austin W. Miller enlisted as a 23 year old Sergeant in Company H, 101st Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 10, 1862, mustering into service the same day.
Promoted to First Sergeant June 30, 1863, he was mustered out June 12, 1865 at
Camp Harker, Tennessee.

Private George W. Stephens
George W. Stephens enlisted as a 24 year old Private in Company H, 101st Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 11, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862.
Captured September 19, 1863 at the Battle of Chickamauga, he died of disease
August 12, 1864 while a prisoner of war at Andersonville, Georgia. He is buried
in the national cemetery there.

Private George W. Whitmore (Whitmire)
George W. Whitmore enlisted as a 20 year old Private in Company H, 101st Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 7, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862. He
died of disease February 16, 1863 at Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Second Lieutenant Isaac P. Rule
Isaac P. Rule enlisted as a 25 year old First Sergeant in Company I, 101st
Ohio Volunteer Infantry on August 12, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862.
Promoted to Second Lieutenant to date January 25, 1863, he was wounded in action
September 19, 1863 and died of his wounds the following day. The letter listed
below describes his demise.

Corporal Samuel F. Arndt
Samuel F. Arndt enlisted as an 18 year old Corporal in Company I, 101st Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 9, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862.
Wounded December 31, 1862 at the Battle of Stones River, he died of his wounds
in a field hospital January 2, 1863. The following article describes his service
and demise.

Roster - Company K, 101st OVI
Captain Milton N. Ebersole
Milton N. Ebersole was born July 4, 1839 to Peter and Elizabeth (Fisher)
Ebersole. Hailing from Fostoria, Ohio, he was commissioned First Lieutenant of
Co. K, 101st Ohio Volunteer Infantry on August 2, 1862, and was mustered into
service August 30, 1862. He was promoted to Captain to date January 21, 1863,
but was wounded in action June 27, 1864 in the assault on Kennesaw Mountain. He
died of his wounds July 12, 1864 at Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was originally
buried in Chattanooga National Cemetery, but is now buried in Old Sheller Cemetery,
in Fostoria, Ohio.

First Sergeant Samuel Strayer
Samuel Strayer enlisted as a 30 year old First Sergeant of Company K, 101st
Ohio Volunteer Infantry on August 14, 1862, mustering into service August 30,
1862. Strayer was wounded in the right arm and captured December 31, 1862 at the
Battle of Stones River. He died while a prisoner of war January 9, 1863 at
Atlanta, Georgia.

Private Luke A. Long
Luke A. Long enlisted as a 19 year old Private in Company K, 101st Ohio Volunteer
Infantry on August 14, 1862, mustering into service August 30, 1862. Wounded
September 19, 1863 at the Battle of Chickamauga, he died of his wounds September
22, 1863.
