Roster - Company E

Adjutant Chauncey Woodruff, Company E

Chauncey Woodruff enlisted as a 41 year old First Sergeant in Company E, 64th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on November 6, 1861, mustering into service the same day. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant of his company to date December 1, 1861, and promoted to regiment Adjutant to date August 11, 1862. He was later promoted to Captain of Company E to date July 13, 1864, but never mustered at that rank. He resigned his commission October 2, 1864.

Roster - Company H

Captain Christian M. Gowing

Christian M. Gowing enlisted as an 18 year old Private in Company H, 64th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on October 19, 1861, mustering into service the same day. He was promoted successively to Corporal April 22, 1863, to Sergeant May 12, 1863, commissioned First Lieutenant to date November 3, 1864, and to Captain to date March 18, 1865. He was mustered out December 3, 1865 at Victoria, Texas.

First Lieutenant David T. Cummins

David T. Cummins enlisted as a 22 year old Sergeant in Company H, 64th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on October 19, 1861, mustering into service the same date. He was promoted to First Sergeant to date December 4, 1861, and later commissioned Second Lieutenant to date April 1, 1863. He was promoted to First Lieutenant to date November 5, 1863, but was wounded in action June 18, 1864 at Muddy Creek, Georgia. He resigned his commission October 29, 1864.

Second Lieutenant Daniel Howe

Daniel Howe enlisted as a 23 year old Private in Company H, 64th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on October 22, 1861, mustering into service the same day. Promoted to Sergeant December 4, 1861, he was again promoted to First Sergeant April 1, 1863 and received his commission as Second Lieutenant to date April 22, 1863. Wounded in action September 20, 1863 at the Battle of Chickamauga, he was mustered out February 22, 1865.

Second Lieutenant William S. McDowell

William S. McDowell enlisted as a 28 year old Quartermaster Sergeant in the 64th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on October 26, 1861, mustering into service the same day. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant and assigned to Company H to date November 30, 1861. He resigned his commission November 16, 1862.

Corporal Jacob Landis

Jacob Landis enlisted as a 21 year old Private in Company H, 64th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on October 26, 1861, mustering into service the same day. Promoted to Corporal to date December 4, 1861, he died of disease November 19, 1862 at Bowling Green, Kentucky. He is buried at Nashville National Cemetery.

Roster - Company K, 64th OVI

Captain William O. Sarr

William O. Sarr enlisted as a 25 year old Corporal in Company H, 15th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on April 23, 1861, mustering into service April 27, 1861. He was mustered out August 29, 1861.

Sarr soon set to work raising Company K, 64th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, enlisting initially as a Private on October 1, 1861 but was soon elected Second Lieutenant November 5, 1861. He was promoted to First Lieutenant to date May 4, 1862 and to Captain to date December 4, 1862. On August 26, 1864, he was discharged to accept an appointment as Captain in the 1st U.S. Veteran Volunteer Engineers.

Captain Joseph B. Sweet

Joseph B. Sweet enlisted as Captain of Company K, 64th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on November 5, 1861, mustering into service the same day. He was killed in action December 31, 1862 at the Battle of Stones River, and is buried at the National Cemetery there.

First Lieutenant E.B. Finley

E.B. Finley enlisted as a 28 year old Private on October 1, 1861, and was elected First Lieutenant November 5, 1861. He was discharged July 12, 1862.

Second Lieutenant John A. Gillis

John A. Gillis enlisted as a 36 year old First Sergeant in Company F, 64th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on October 21, 1861, mustering into service the same day. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant to date April 1, 1863 and transferred to Company K. He was mustered out April 4, 1865.

First Sergeant Francis M. Welsh

Francis M. Welsh enlisted as a 23 year old Private in Company K, 64th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on October 23, 1861, mustering into service the same date. Promoted to First Sergeant at some point during his service, he was discharged February 17, 1864.

Principal Musician Silas Sweeney Mallory

Silas S. Mallory enlisted as an 18 year old Private in Company K, 64th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on October 17, 1861, mustering into service the same date. He served as a musician, and was promoted to Principal Musician to date July 1, 1863, serving in that capacity for the rest of the war. Reenlisting for the duration of the war in 1864, he was mustered out December 3, 1865 at Victoria, Texas.

Private David Crosson

David Crosson enlisted as a 25 year old Private in Company K, 64th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on November 20, 1861, mustering into service the same day. He was killed in action May 14, 1864 at Resaca, Georgia and is buried at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Private Ulysses Greene

Ulysses Greene enlisted as an 18 year old Private in Company K, 64th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on October 3, 1861, mustering into service the same day. Wounded in action May 14, 1864 at the Battle of Resaca, he was mustered out October 5, 1864 at Columbus, Ohio.

Curtis Bowman enlisted as an 18 year old Private in the 64th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on October 8, 1862, mustering into service the same day. He died of disease May 26, 1863 at Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Private Hiram C. Hopkins, Unassigned

Hiram C. Hopkins was drafted as a 24 year old Private into the 64th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on October 8, 1862, mustering into service the same day. He died of disease July 7, 1863 at Field Hospital No. 1 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
