Field and Staff
Colonel Valentine Bausenwein
Valentine Bausenwein enlisted as a 32 year old Major in the forming 58th Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on September 21, 1861, but was soon promoted to Colonel of the
largely German regiment on October 1, 1861. Taking part in battles at Fort Donelson,
Shiloh, and Corinth, Bausenwein was discharged on August 11, 1862.
