Colonel Benjamin Piatt Runkle
Benjamin Piatt Runkle was born September 3, 1836 in West Liberty, Ohio and enlisted as a Captain in Company D, 13th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on April 17, 1861, mustering into service May 4, 1861. He was mustered out of the three months' organization on June 1, 1861, reenlisting for three years on June 26, 1861 as Captain of Company C, 13th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Promoted to Major to date October 25, 1861, then Lieutenant Colonel to date May 13, 1862, he was discharged for promotion August 19, 1862, accepting a commission as Colonel of the 45th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was discharged July 21, 1864, accepting a position as Lieutenant Colonel of the Veterans Reserve Corps to date August 22, 1864.
Following the close of hostilities, he was given brevet promotions to Colonel,
Brigadier General, and Major General of Volunteers, all dating November 9, 1865.
He was also brevetted to Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Regulars for his
involvement at Shiloh, his brevet dating to March 2, 1867 along with a subsequent
brevet promotion to Colonel. He was mustered out of service with the Veterans
Reserve Corps on October 5, 1866 but served in the U.S. Army subsequently. He
died June 28, 1916 in Hillsboro, Ohio.

Roster - Company D, 45th OVI
Second Lieutenant Stephen D. Pond, Company D
Stephen D. Pond enlisted as a 30 year old Sergeant in Company D, 45th Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on June 30, 1862, mustering into service August 19, 1862. Pond
was promoted to First Sergeant February 19, 1864, and was commissioned Second
Lieutenant to date February 10, 1865. He was mustered out June 12, 1865 at Camp
Harker, Tennessee.

Private James H. Bradley
Enlisted, age 18 on June 19, 1862 to serve three years; appointed Corporal
January 14, 1863; captured October 20, 1863 at Battle of Philadelphia, TN;
appointed Sergeant February 28, 1865; mustered out with company June 12, 1865

Musician George Q. Mallory
George Q. Mallory enlisted as an 18 year old Musician in Company K, 45th Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on July 10, 1862, mustering into service August 19, 1862.
Captured November 15, 1863 at the Battle of Holston River, he was released
March 13, 1864 and mustered out June 12, 1865 at Camp Harker, Nashville, Tennessee.

Private Albert H. Holt
Albert H. Holt enlisted as a 21 year old Private in Company K, 45th Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on July 4, 1862, mustering into service August 19, 1862. He
was captured October 20, 1863 at Philadelphia, Tennessee and mustered out
May 17, 1865 at Camp Chase, Ohio.
