Major Leonard Adams
Leonard Adams enlisted as a 28 year old Captain in Company G, 3rd Ohio Volunteer
Cavalry on August 13, 1861, mustering into service December 11, 1861. He was
promoted to Major March 7, 1863 and mustered out November 23, 1864 at Louisville,
Kentucky.

Adjutant Victor J. Zahm
Victor J. Zahm enlisted as a 24 year old Adjutant in the 3rd Ohio Volunteer
Cavalry on October 26, 1861, mustering into service December 11, 1861. He was
discharged September 2, 1862.

Enlisted 5/9/1864 as Chaplain, mustered out with regiment 8/4/1865 at Edgefield, TN.

Quartermaster William R. Jackson
William R. Jackson enlisted as a 38 year old Quartermaster in the 3rd Ohio Volunteer Cavalry on November 4, 1861, mustering into service December 11, 1861. He resigned his commission September 2, 1862.
Jackson reenlisted as Quartermaster of the 7th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry on
September 15, 1862, mustering into service the same day. He was promoted to
Captain of Company C to date April 2, 1864 and mustered out June 28, 1865.

Captain Henry Stricker
Enlisted 9/7/1861 as Sergeant Major, promoted to 2nd Lieutenant 5/16/1862 and
transferred to Company A, promoted to 1st Lieutenant 2/1/1863, promoted to Captain

Sergeant Major David E. Tyler, Company B
David E. Tyler enlisted as a 20 year old private in Company B, 3rd Ohio Volunteer
Cavalry on September 4, 1861, mustering into service the same day. He was promoted
to Sergeant at an unknown date and reenlisted as a veteran in early 1864. He was
promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major April 4, 1864, but his further record is
unclear.

Chaplain Edward Y. Warner
Edward Y. Warner enlisted as a 28 year old Chaplain of the 3rd Ohio Volunteer
Cavalry on September 25, 1861, and was commissioned into service December 11, 1861.
He resigned August 1, 1862.

Captain Elisha M. Colver
Elisha M. Colver enlisted as a 27 year old First Lieutenant in Company B, 3rd
Ohio Volunteer Cavalry on September 4, 1861, mustering into service the same day.
He was promoted to Captain of Company K to date June 16, 1862, but his further
record is unclear.

Captain John G. Oates
John G. Oates enlisted as a 24 year old Corporal in Company A, 3rd Ohio Volunteer
Cavalry on September 4, 1861, mustering into service the same day. He was promoted
to Sergeant January 2, 1862 and was later commissioned Second Lieutenant of
Company B to date June 19, 1863. Captured in action January 12, 1864 at Benton,
Tennessee, he was confined for a time at Columbia, South Carolina. He was
promoted to the rank of Captain to date November 30, 1864 but was never mustered
at that rank. He was mustered out April 17, 1865 at Columbus, Ohio.

Private Charles Matthew McGlone
Charles Matthew McGlone enlisted as a 22 year old Private in Company B, 3rd
Ohio Volunteer Cavalry on September 4, 1861, mustering into service the same day.
He died of disease May 3, 1862 near Corinth, Mississippi. The following letter
from his company commander gives the circumstances of his demise.

Corporal William F. Bradley, Company C
William F. Bradley enlisted as an 18 year old Private in Company C, 3rd Ohio
Volunteer Cavalry on August 28, 1861, mustering into service October 8, 1861. He
was promoted to Corporal January 13, 1863 and reenlisted as a veteran in early
1864. He was mustered out August 3, 1865 at Columbus, Ohio.

Enlisted 4/22/1861 as a Private in Company A, 14th Ohio Infantry, mustered out
8/13/1861. Enlisted 9/10/1861 as a Private in Company C, 3rd Ohio Cavalry,
mustered in 10/8/1861, promoted to Sergeant Major 1/4/1864, promoted to 2nd
Lieutenant 3/31/1864 and transferred to Company G, promoted to 1st Lieutenant
11/3/1864, captured and imprisoned but escaped 2/21/1865 at Wilmington, NC,
promoted to Captain but not mustered 2/23/1865, mustered out with regiment
8/4/1865 at Edgefield, TN.

Private Henry G. Norton, Companies C and D
Henry Norton enlisted as a 20 year old Private in Co. C, 3rd Ohio Volunteer
Cavalry on August 24, 1861, mustering into service October 8, 1861. He served
with the regiment briefly before being discharged for disability July 22, 1862.
Later in the war, he reenlisted in Co. D, 3rd Ohio Volunteer Cavalry, mustering
into service January 4, 1864. He served with this regiment through April 1865,
when he was discharged to accept a commission as First Lieutenant and regimental
Adjutant of the 137th United States Colored Troops. He mustered out of service
January 15, 1866.

Company D, 3rd OVC
Captain Paul Deal, Companies D and K
Paul Deal was born about 1818 in Perry Co., Ohio to David and Magdalene
(Overmyer) Deal. He worked as a carpenter, and enlisted as a 43 year old Sergeant
in Co. D, 3rd Ohio Volunteer Cavalry on September 10, 1861 and was soon promoted
to First Sergeant. He served with the regiment through the entire war, taking
part in campaigns in Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia.
He was promoted to Second Lieutenant to date November 24, 1863, then to First
Lieutenant to date November 30, 1864 and transferred to Company K. His last
promotion was to Captain to date January 6, 1865. He mustered out with the
regiment August 4, 1865 at Edgefield, Tennessee. He died April 7, 1880 in
Toledo, Ohio and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Private John Duxbury
John Duxbury enlisted as a 24 year old Private in Company F, 3rd Ohio Volunteer
Cavalry on September 9, 1861, mustering into service November 11, 1861. He was
mustered out November 4, 1864 at Columbia, Tennessee.

Joseph Kramer enlisted as a 39 year old Private in Company G, 3rd Ohio Volunteer
Cavalry on September 12, 1861, mustering into service December 11, 1861. He died

Sergeant Benjamin Franklin Kurtz, Co. L, 3rd OVC
Benjamin Franklin Kurtz was born December 26, 1833 and enlisted as a Corporal in Co. L, 3rd Ohio Volunteer Cavalry on September 22, 1861. He was mustered into service on November 22, 1861 and was promoted to Sergeant at an unknown date. He mustered out October 3, 1864 at Columbia, Tennessee. He died November 20, 1920 and is buried at Spring Grove Cemetery, Wyandot Co., Ohio.

Company M, 3rd OVC
Captain Henry C. Miner, Company M
Henry C. Miner was born in April 1831 near Sego, Perry Co., Ohio to Daniel and Margaret (Fluckey) Miner. He moved with his parents to Cardington, Morrow Co., Ohio and while there learned the carpentry trade and was living with his unmarried sister at the times of the outbreak of the war. He enlisted as the Second Lieutenant of Co. C, 15th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on April 23, 1861 and was mustered into service April 27, 1861. He took part in the summer campaign in western Virginia before mustering out August 28, 1861, taking part in the Battle of Philippi. Returning home to Morrow County, he enlisted in Co. M, 3rd Ohio Volunteer Cavalry on September 8, 1861 and was commissioned First Lieutenant. Miner served for three years but battled disease throughout his term, suffering from digestive disorders and pneumonia. Regardless, the was promoted to Captain to date January 21, 1863. He mustered out November 22, 1864 at Knoxville, Tennessee.
Returning home, he married Marian L. Doty on July 24, 1865 but soon separated from her, suspecting her of being unfaithful to him while he was away at war, and in December 1865 he moved to Knoxville, Tennessee and worked for the Southern Express Co. as a messenger. Following his divorce in 1871 from Marian, he married Mattie Hunt Phillips on December 23, 1875 in Knoxville and had six children. He suffered a bad arm injury during a railroad accident in 1899. A member of the Knights Templar and the Grand Army of the Republic, Henry C. Miner died April 12, 1906 at the age of 75 and is buried in an unmarked grave in the Knoxville National Cemetery.

Sergeant William Young, Company M
William Young enlisted as an 18 year old Private in Co. M, 3rd Ohio Volunteer
Cavalry on September 8, 1861, and mustered into service December 11, 1861. He
served with the regiment throughout the war, seeing service throughout Kentucky,
Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia including the campaigns of Stones River,
Chickamauga, and Atlanta. He reenlisted as a veteran in early 1864, was
promoted to Corporal, and later promoted to Sergeant December 2, 1864. He
mustered out with his regiment August 4, 1865 at Edgefield, Tennessee.
