Roster - Field and Staff, 34th OVI
Lieutenant Colonel John W. Shaw
John W. Shaw enlisted as a 41 year old Captain of Company E, 34th Ohio Volunteer
Infantry on August 13, 1861, mustering into service August 15, 1861. Promoted to
Major to date October 10, 1862 and to Lieutenant Colonel to date July 18, 1863,
he was wounded in action July 24, 1864 at Winchester, Virginia and died of his
wounds the next day.

Surgeon W.R.S. Clark
W.R.S. Clark enlisted as a 39 year old assistant surgeon in the 34th Ohio Volunteer
Infantry on August 31, 1861, mustering into service September 2, 1861. Promoted to
Surgeon January 11, 1862, he deserted August 13, 1862.

Roster - Company D, 34th OVI
Private Irving Ahlein
Irving Ahlein enlisted as a 40 year old Private in Company D, 34th Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on July 30, 1861, mustering into service July 31, 1861.
He was discharged for disability August 5, 1863 at Columbus, Ohio.

Private Jacob Shadle
Jacob Shadle enlisted as a 22 year old Private in Company D, 34th Ohio Volunteer
Infantry on August 22, 1862, mustering into service the same day. He was transferred
to Company D, 36th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on February 28, 1865 and discharged
June 27, 1865.

Roster - Company E, 34th OVI
Captain Frank B. Helwig, Companies E and G
Frank B. Helwig enlisted as a 23 year old First Lieutenant in Company E, 34th
Ohio Volunteer Infantry on August 13, 1861, mustering into service the same day.
He was promoted to the rank of Captain to date July 7, 1862 and transferred to
Company G. He was mustered out September 13, 1864.

Second Lieutenant John Quincy Adams Fullerton, Companies E and D
John Q.A. Fullerton enlisted as a 19 year old Sergeant in Company E, 34th Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 1, 1861, mustering into service August 15, 1861. He
was promoted to Second Lieutenant to date October 10, 1862 and transferred to
Company D, but his further record is unclear.

Sergeant John F. Sherrick, Company E
John F. Sherrick enlisted as a 27 year old Private in Company E, 34th Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 1, 1861, mustering into service August 15, 1861.
Promoted to Sergeant during his service, he was wounded in action September 22,
1864 at the Battle of Fisher's Hill and died of his wounds October 1, 1864 at
Baltimore, Maryland.

Corporal Horace N. Martin, Company E
Horace N. Martin enlisted as an 18 year old Private in Company E, 34th Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 1, 1861, mustering into service August 15, 1861.
Promoted to Corporal May 1, 1864, he was killed in action September 18, 1864 at
Martinsburg, West Virginia.

Corporal Isaac Williams, Company E
Isaac Williams enlisted as a 21 year old Corporal in Company E, 34th Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 1, 1861, mustering into service August 15, 1861. He
was mustered out September 13, 1864 at Columbus, Ohio.

Private Alexander Crosson, Company E
Alexander Crosson enlisted as a 19 year old Private in Company E, 34th Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 1, 1861, mustering into service August 15, 1861.
Wounded in action July 24, 1864 at Winchester, Virginia, he died of his wounds
August 24, 1864 at Frederick, Maryland.

Private William Crosson, Company E
William Crosson enlisted as a Private in Company E, 34th Ohio Volunteer
Infantry on August 18, 1862, mustering into service the same day. He died of
disease July 24, 1864 at Winchester, Virginia and is buried at Winchester National
Cemetery.

Private John C. Horton, Company E
John C. Horton enlisted as a 21 year old Private in Company E, 34th Ohio Volunteer
Infantry on August 1, 1861, mustering into service August 15, 1861. He was captured
July 24, 1864 at Winchester, Virginia and was mustered out April 12, 1865 at
Columbus, Ohio.

Private Oregon Johnston, Company E
Oregon Johnston enlisted as an 18 year old Private in Company C, 8th Ohio Volunteer
Infantry on April 23, 1861, mustering into service the same day. He was mustered out
August 18, 1861 at Columbus, Ohio. He reenlisted as a Private in Company E, 34th
Ohio Volunteer Infantry on August 1, 1861, mustering into service August 15, 1861.
Johnston was mustered out September 13, 1864 at Columbus, Ohio.

Private William Mader, Company E
William Mader enlisted as an 18 year old Private in Company E, 34th Ohio Volunteer
Infantry on February 27, 1864, mustering into service the same day. Captured October
19, 1864 at the Battle of Cedar Creek, he died of disease while a prisoner of war
February 15, 1865 at Salisbury, North Carolina.

Private Isaac N. Munson, Company E
Isaac N. Munson enlisted as a 37 year old Private in Company E, 34th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on February 27, 1864, mustering into service the same day. He was transferred to the 36th Ohio on January 30, 1865.Letter: Bucyrus Journal: January 28, 1865
Private Alonzo Peitzel, Company E (also known as Alanson Pitezel)
Alonzo Peitzel enlisted as a 21 year old Private in Company E, 34th Ohio Volunteer
Infantry on August 1, 1861, mustering into service August 15, 1861. Wounded in
action September 10, 1862 at Fayetteville, Virginia, he died of his wounds
September 16, 1862 at Gallipolis, Ohio.

Private Charles A. Stough, Company E
Charles A. Stough enlisted as a 22 year old Private in Company E, 34th Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 1, 1861, mustering into service August 15, 1861. He
was mustered out September 13, 1864 at Columbus, Ohio.

Private Charles Sutphin, Company E
Charles Sutphin enlisted as a Private in Company E, 34th Ohio Volunteer Infantry
on September 11, 1861, mustering into service the same day. He was discharged for
promotion to Second Lieutenant of Company D, 93rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry, receiving
his commission to date August 26, 1862. Promoted to First Lieutenant to date March 1,
1863 and transferred to Company A, he was later wounded in action and discharged
for his wounds December 23, 1863.

Private David Wynn
David Wynn was born in 1835 and enlisted as a Private in Company E, 34th Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 1, 1861, mustering into service August 15, 1861. He
was mustered out September 13, 1864 at Columbus, Ohio and died in 1892 in Monroe
Twp., Adams Co., Indiana.

Roster - Company F, 34th OVI
Private John A. Williams
John A. Williams enlisted as a 25 year old Private in Company F, 34th Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on July 25, 1861, mustering into service September 2, 1861.
Reenlisting as a veteran in 1864, he was transferred to the 36th Ohio on
February 20, 1865.

Roster - Company H, 34th OVI
First Lieutenant James K. Agnew
James K. Agnew was born March 16, 1836 to John and Mary Agnew. He was immediately
promoted to First Sergeant when he enlisted October 19, 1861 in Co. K, 55th Ohio
Volunteer Infantry. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant to date November 21,
1861 but resigned his commission due to health reasons July 16, 1862. He
reenlisted in the 34th Ohio sometime in 1864 and was serving with Company H
during the summer. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant to date September 30, 1864
and on February 28, 1865 was transferred to command of Company B, 36th Ohio
Volunteer Infantry. He was promoted to First Lieutenant to date March 8, 1865
and mustered out July 27, 1865 at Wheeling, West Virginia. He died January 14,
1875 and is buried in Nevada Cemetery, Wyandot Co., Ohio. His widow Jennie
survived him.

First Sergeant James W. Shaw
James W. Shaw enlisted as a 24 year old Sergeant in Company I, 34th Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 10, 1861, mustering into service September 14,
1861. Promoted to First Sergeant during his service, he was mustered out
September 13, 1864.

Private Henry M. Lutz
Henry M. Lutz enlisted as a 24 year old Private in Company K, 34th Ohio
Volunteer Infantry on August 10, 1861, mustering into service September 12,
1861. He died of disease June 21, 1864 at Knoxville, Tennessee.

Private Samuel F. Stahl
Samuel F. Stahl enlisted as a Private in Company K, 34th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on August 5, 1862, mustering into service the same day. He was killed in action July 20, 1864 at Winchester, Virginia and is buried at Winchester National Cemetery.
