Roster - Company E
Captain Sylvester M. Hewitt
Sylvester M. Hewitt enlisted as a 41 year old Captain of Company E, 26th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on June 5, 1861, mustering into service June 14, 1861. He was promoted to the rank of Major and transferred to the 32nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry to date July 26, 1861. He was mustered into service with that regiment on August 31, 1861, and served with it until he resigned his commission January 13, 1863.
On May 13, 1864, he enlisted as the regimental surgeon of the 136th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, serving with that unit until it was mustered out August 31, 1864.

Private George W. Briggs
George W. Briggs enlisted as a 36 year old Private in Company E, 26th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on June 14, 1861, mustering into service the same day. He reenlisted as a veteran in 1864 but his further record is unclear.

Private Alfred Biddleton McCreary
Alfred McCreary was born October 1, 1843 in Knox Co., Ohio to George and Mary
(Hayden) McCreary. He enlisted in Co. E, 26th Ohio Volunteer Infantry as a 19 year
old Private on June 11, 1861, serving three years before his mustering out
July 25, 1864 at Chattanooga, Tennessee. He later served for a year in Co. M,
16th Kansas Cavalry. He was a member of Hamilton Post No. 90, G.A.R. and died
March 16, 1899 in Bradner, Wood Co., Ohio. He is buried in Chestnut Grove Cemetery.
