Surgeon Robert E. McMeens
Robert E. McMeens enlisted as a 30 year old Surgeon in the 3rd Ohio Volunteer
Infantry on April 19, 1861, mustering into service April 27, 1861. He reenlisted
with the regiment for three years' service on June 12, 1861, but died of disease
October 30, 1862. The following letter from Dr. George G. Shumard, gives some of
the details of his service and demise.
