The University Libraries welcomes school and other community groups. We are happy to share our resources with outside groups
and have established some guidelines to maximize visitor experiences at BGSU Libraries. We thank you for your interest in
our services and materials.
Scheduling Visits
All group visits to BGSU Libraries must be arranged through the First-year Experience Librarian, including visits or tours
that will be conducted by the group leader.
- Please schedule appointments at least two weeks in advance.
- Scheduling library visits for Friday mornings is preferred.
- Try to avoid scheduling during peak periods of the semester which include the first three weeks of a semester (early September
and mid-January) and the last two weeks of a semester (early December and late April / early May)
- Supervision of students is required with no more than a 15 to 1 ratio.
- Please try to keep groups to 25 people or fewer.

Library Instruction & Tours
Library tours and library instruction are available and encouraged. We have found that students will find information more
efficiently if tours and/or instruction is provided. Tours of the first floor only are provided and take approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
We ask that students arrive with an actual research assignment and that, if possible, they have exposure to our web-based
catalog before visiting our facility. We strongly encourage students to focus their attention on locating journal articles
by using our subscription Research Databases. These are available to non-BGSU students on-site only. We have a variety of
computer facilities we can schedule for hands-on instruction or online demonstrations if needed.
Borrowing Books
For complete and updated information regarding the borrowing of books or other materials, it is best to consult the Circulation Policies.
Services and Costs
Photocopiers
Photocopiers are available in the Reserve Reading Room. None of our copiers take change. Therefore it is important for students
to bring cash with them to purchase a copy card. Our BG1 copy card system costs two dollars to purchase. Money may be added
by using cash or credit card. The BG1 card may be purchased from a machine that is mounted to the wall just outside the entrance
to the Reserve Reading Room. Each time a copy is made, the cost of the copy is deducted from the copy card.
Microform Readers
It is possible that some of our visitors may need to use microfilm and microfiche. Special readers for these formats are available
in the Reserve Reading Room. Copies from fiche readers cost $.10 per page and require the use of the BG1 card. Staff are on
hand to help students use this equipment.
Campus Tours
It has been our experience that if students are searching for articles, they usually finish in approximately two hours. We
realize that it may be difficult to arrange half day visits. To keep our visitors busy and engaged, you may want to consider
arranging a campus tour of BGSU for your group. The University offers student-guided tours Monday-Friday, at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. If enough advance notice
is given, the tour office is receptive to scheduling a more convenient time as well.
