Content Description:  An attempt to reproduce every play from the United States in the 19th century. Also included are translations and adaptations of European plays.

This is a partial continuation of a microcard collection, English and American Drama of the 19th Century, which was issued until 1985 when it was replaced by two microfiche collections: Nineteenth Century American Drama and Nineteenth Century English Drama, both owned by the BGSU Libraries. The total collection includes copies of over 23,000 plays, including manuscripts, acting editions, and definitive published editions.

Arrangement:  Alphabetical order by author's name, if known, or by title, if the author's name is unknown. If a play was arranged or translated by somebody other than the author it is usually filed under the name of the arranger or translator.

Index/Bibliography: Readex Nineteenth Century English and American Plays Collections: Cumulated Checklist. (Jerome Library Reference PR 1271 .N55 v.1). A checklist of the American plays issued from 1977 through mid-1987. The binder also includes checklists of the plays in the shipments for 1987 and 1988.
