Content Description: A reproduction of documents from President Harry S Truman's Secretary's files. These files contained documents chosen by President Truman as being of such importance that he wanted them to be available in his office. His secretary, Rose Conway, kept the files. The documents in this collection have been divided into five parts:
- Pt. 1: Political Files
- Pt. 2: Correspondence Files
- Pt. 3: Subject Files
- Pt. 4: Korean War Files
- Pt. 5: Truman Diaries and Handwritten Notes Files
Part 1: Political Files: Contains reports on political events and conditions in each state. There are also subject files on such topics as the African American vote, major contributors, the farm vote, etc. Files were made for some major political figures, such as Adlai Stevenson, Estes Kafauver, and Henry A. Wallace.
Part 5: Truman Diaries and Handwritten Notes Files: President Truman's personal diary and handwritten notes he made at various times in his career. These contain his private thoughts about events and people. The diaries cover only 1949 and 1951-53. The Longhand Personal Memos cover 1945-1955, but include writings about his boyhood and early career in addition to current events.
