The FBI investigated him because of his alleged membership in the Communist Party and because of his activities in the civil rights movement. They also investigated his wife, Eslanda Robeson, because of her political activities. The documents cover 1941-1978. Documents include surveillance logs, field reports, newspaper and periodical articles (some in English translation), letters, etc.
