Content Description:  Reproductions of the minutes of the meetings of the Correctional Association of New York. These minutes cover 1844 to 1966. Because the earlier minutes are hand written and some pages of later minutes are dark, not all pages are legible.

The Prison Association of New York, later the Correctional Association of New York, was founded in 1844 to improve conditions in prisons and jails. Although it is a private organization, it conducted on-site visits of state and local prisons and jails. The Association was instrumental in promoting numerous reforms.
