Content Description:  Ratified Indian treaties, 1722-1869, with papers related to the treaties. These papers include Presidential proclamations, Senate resolutions, messages from the President to the U.S. Senate, messages to treaty commissioners, journals, and correspondence. Not all of these items will be present for every treaty.

1) Indian Affairs: Laws and Treaties, compiled and edited by Charles J. Kappler, v.2: Treaties 1778-1883 (Main Gov Docs Y4.In2/2:L 44/v.2; A reprint of this volume is also in the Reference Collection (REF KF 8203 1972b). This volume is also available on the Internet, full text and searchable, from Oklahoma State University. These volumes include only the copy of each treaty, without accompanying documents.

2) Early American Indian Documents: Treaties and Laws, 1607-1789, ed. by Alden T. Vaughan. (Main Library-1st Floor KF 8202 1979) 18 vols. This series includes the treaties, plus copies of relevant documents, such as messages, speeches, etc.

Index/Bibliography:  Reel 1 consists of a chronological list of the treaties, a geographic index, and an index by tribe.
