Content Description: Reproductions of documents from the U.S. Department of State Decimal Files about the internal affairs of Korea from 1910 to 1929. Korea was annexed by Japan in a treaty dated August 29, 1910 and was called Chosen during this time period. Some of the documents concern Japanese governance of Korea, or Chosen, and reactions to this.
Most documents in this collection are instructions to and despatches from U.S. diplomatic and consular staff. Other documents include reports and memoranda prepared by the staff of the State Department and correspondence between members of the U.S. State Department and other U.S. government agencies or foreign governments. These documents cover Korean politics, economy, military, social and other internal matters.
