Evaluating Sources of Information
This page provides some sites to evaluate. There are also links to two sites that provide
the important questions you should always ask when using information from the Web.

Saved Search Strategy for the Web of Science database.
The above link opens a file that contains a saved search for the Web of Science database. This saved search will assist you in locating journals within Public Health. After you click on the link and the file opens, you will have to save the file on a local drive before it can be used.

1. Click on the "Saved Search Strategy for the Web of Science database" link above. After the file opens go to number 2.
2. Use the Menu bar at the top, click "File - Save As".
Then provide a file name with the file extension of ".wos" ( For example: publicheathjournals.wos )
3. Save the file as a "text file" on a local drive.
4. Open the "Web of Science" database and click on the "Web of Science - GO" line (on the left side)
5. Click on the "OPEN SAVED SEARCH" button
6. Enter the address for the local file you saved in step two (publichealthjournals.wos) and click on the OPEN button
7. Click on the RUN button
8. Click on the CONTINUE button
9. Wait for the search to run
10. Click on the "General Search" button (on the top) and then search for your topic. After you have located articles on your topic, then click on the "Search History" button (on the top). This allows you to view all of your searches. Combine your topic "AND" set #10, to locate your topic within public health journals.

Research Databases
Use the research databases to find articles, both scholarly and popular. Academic Search Complete and the Web of Science are two databases that are recommended for this class.

Citing Sources
Cite your sources carefully. Full-text articles available through the research databases and web sources pose particular problems. Consult these guides for assistance documenting your sources:
