Although you can definitely find some very useful industry information on the Internet, much industry information (such as industry ratios) is most readily, reliably, and sometimes only found in print sources (books) at the library. A few books are listed below, but look for more at QuickQuest by Topic under Industry Information.
Trade Associations are a good source of industry information. Suggestions for locating a trade association for your industry follow:
- Look at the Yahoo! Trade Associations directory to see if the industry that you're researching has a web site.
- Look in the Encyclopedia of Associations (Annual) at the Jerome Library Reference Desk for names and addresses of trade associations.
Industry/Trade Journals contain articles focusing on specific industries.
- The research database Lexis-Nexis Academic contains full text articles from industry/trade magazines. Search for these by selecting Business News (Step 1) and Industry
News (Step 2). You can also search the Industry & Market file under the Business menu.
- Locate articles on your industry in Business Source Complete and Factiva.

industry, and compare the financials of the companies within the industry.
