Private Companies: Tips/Resources
Recommended Research Databases
- Business Source Complete : Contains citations to articles in business magazines and academic journals. Many of the articles are available full text.
Search Tip:

- Select company entity (name) or ticker symbol from the pull-down menus to search for articles on a particular company.
- Select "Company Profiles" on the green menu bar near the top of the screen to access Datamonitor Company Profiles for the World's 5000 largest companies.
- Factiva : Contains articles from business magazines and newspapers. Also provides company profiles.

- To access Company Reports and Stock Charting, click on the Companies/Markets tab. Then select Companies or Charting.
- Lexis-Nexis Academic : Contains full text newspaper, magazine, and journal articles, as well as company financial information and information
on companies from a variety of standard directories.
Search Tips:

- Use the News tab on the top toolbar for recent news articles and other information on a particular company. Blogs sometimes covered.
- Use the Business tab on the top toolbar and then the Company Profiles link on the next screen. Search various resources (such as Hoover's Company Reports and Standard & Poor's Corporate Descriptions)
by clicking on links from the Source By Category options (pull-down box) on the screen showing Result Groups.

- Morningstar : Provides top quality data and analysis on over 20,000 securities.
Search Tips:

- Enter the ticker symbol or name of your company in the Reports search box to retrieve the analysis of its stock.
- Please Log Off Morningstar when finished using it!
- Value Line Investment Survey : Provides Investor information and analysis on over 1700 stocks. Also provides analysis on market and industry performance
and trends.
Search Tips:

- If your company doesn't come up by name, search with the ticker symbol instead.
- Follow the "Education" tab for help in reading the Value Line page.
- This resource is ONLY available from the Jerome Library or the College of Business building.
- Please Log Off Value Line when finished using it!

- PRARS: Public Register's Annual Report Service: http://www.prars.com/
Provides free annual reports (print copies) by mail on over 3,600 public companies.
- Yahoo! Finance: http://finance.yahoo.com/
Contains profiles of over 9000 public companies, including links to company news, research reports, SEC filings, etc.
Private Companies: Tips/Resources
It is typically harder to find information on Private Companies than Public Companies, especially if they are relatively small
in size. The researcher is less likely to find "Company Profiles" with detailed financial information, but must rely more
heavily on news articles.

- Ward's Business Directory of U.S. Private and Public Companies, REF HG4057.A575 2004
- Search newspapers from the geographic region where your company is located.
- Lexis-Nexis Academic : From the News Menu, select U.S. News in Step 1 and then select the appropriate state or region of the country in Step 2.
- Americas Newspapers contains articles from 17 Ohio newspapers.
- Search the ReferenceUSA database for basic directory information for 12 million U.S. businesses.
