Videos: Streaming Digital Video
OhioLINK Digital Video Collection
The OhioLINK Digital
Video Collection has hundreds of streaming digital videos which
can be accessed via the Internet. If you are off campus, you will
be asked to give your name and "P" number. These videos will eventually
be available through the BGSU
Libraries Catalog as well.
You may also be interested in one of OhioLINK's specialized digital
video collections:
- Foreign
Language Database
The ViewPoints Project is a growing collection of foreign language
video clips in which native speakers elaborate on a wide variety
of topics about their culture, family, daily life, and more. Each
video is accompanied by a description of its contents, the country
of the speaker, and additional grammar and vocabulary notes. Videos
are available in QuickTime format.
- Encyclopedia
of Physics Demonstrations
Each of the 600 demonstrations is concisely produced and narrated,
each stands alone and illustrates a particular principle of physics.
Videos are accompanied by a printer-friendly PDF page which make
contain graphics, tables or figures not easily rendered on the
web. Videos are available in RealVideo format and may be streamed
or dowloaded.
Television Learning Services (TLS)
Television Learning Services
at WBGU has many videos available through their new Digital Video
Streaming Service (DVSS). If you have questions about the service,
please consult the DVSS Help
screens.
- To find out what videos are available through TLS, go to the
TLS
Video Search page (you will be asked for your P number,
and BGNet username and password). Follow the directions to
reserve
a video.
- OR -- go to your My
BGSU account, and choose "My Video Search" from the Quick
Links section -- you may need to scroll down to find the Quick
Links. Follow the directions to reserve a video.
Videos: VHS and DVD
BGSU Libraries
BGSU Libraries do not have a large number of videos in our collections.
However, to find what we do have, try these steps:
- To look for a particular video, do a title search in
the
BGSU Libraries Catalog,
just as you would for a book.
- To look for a video on a particular topic, try a word search
in the BGSU Libraries
Catalog. Type your keyword in the Words box at the top
of the screen. Below that, there is an option to limit by "Video
Recording". Choose via the drop-down box to limit to All video
recordings, Videocassette/VHS, or Videodisc/DVD.
NOTE: Instructors and professors sometimes put videos on Reserve
for their classes.
OhioLINK
If the video you want is not in our library, you may be able to
get it from another library in Ohio through OhioLINK. OhioLINK items
usually take 2 to 5 school days to arrive at our library, where
they will be held at the circulation desk for you. Searching the
OhioLINK catalog is similar to searching the BGSU Libraries catalog:
- To look for a particular video, do a title search in the
OhioLINK
Catalog, just as you would for a book. To request the video,
click on "Request This Item," and follow the instructions.
- To look for a video on a particular topic, click the link
that says Advanced
Keyword Search. Type your keyword in the box(es)
at the top of the screen. Below that, where it says Limit
Your Search, look at the options for Projected
Medium. Then choose All, Videocassette,
or Videodisc to limit to video recordings.
Request the video by clicking on "Request
This Item," and following the instructions.
Other possibilities on campus
There are various places on campus that have videos -- please consult
with the staff in each area to find out about their check out policies.
Toledo Lucas County and Wood County Public Libraries
The Toledo-Lucas County
and Wood County Public Libraries
may also be a source for videos. Consult the catalogs on their web
sites to see if they may be of some assistance.
