Dr. Janet Parks, Distinguished Teaching Professor in Human Movement, Sport, and Leisure Studies retired from a 39-year teaching
career at BGSU in 2004. Touched by the countless meaningful relationships she enjoyed with students and other BGSU community
members, Janet chose to express her appreciation through a $20,000 personal gift to the University Libraries. During her retirement
celebration held in the William T. Jerome Library on August 21, 2004, Janet launched her project to raise funds for the construction
of student group study spaces and a cyber café on the seventh floor of the Jerome Library building. Together Janet and her
friends raised more than $45,000 to fund the construction of group study spaces, Phase I of the project.

In the spring of 2007, Janet worked with Dr. Joy Potthoff, an associate professor in the Family and Consumer Sciences’ interior
design program, and her students who presented design proposals for the 7th floor. The proposals included plans for hanging
colored accent canopies from the ceiling, reconfiguring the group meeting spaces and adding a flat-screen television and a
coffee bar.
