Three BGSU nursing graduates recently were honored for their exceptional dedication, effectiveness and enthusiasm for the
“science of caring.”
Among the top honorees at the 2007 Cameos of Caring Program and Awards Gala in Columbus, Ohio, were Tobi Adams ’98, Susan
Ezzone ’82 and Vanessa Jamison ’85.
The Cameos of Caring Program and Awards Gala each year honors the profession of nursing and those individuals who represent
it. The Ohio State University College of Nursing began hosting Cameos of Caring in 2004. To date, 103 nurses in central Ohio
have received the prestigious Cameos of Caring award. The nurses were nominated for the awards by their hospitals and healthcare
agencies.
Adams, who works at Select Specialty Hospital in Columbus, is “an excellent clinician who is able to relate to families in
a way that puts them at ease,” her nominator stated. “She willingly spends hours providing one-on-one-time with a patient’s
family to ensure they have accurate information helping them to make an informed decision.”
Additionally, she is considered an excellent resource to all the staff on her unit. She educates staff and holds them accountable
to a high standard of care. She earned her bachelor’s degree from BGSU in 1998 and went on to earn a master’s degree in 2005
from Ohio State University College of Nursing.

Ezzone is considered an expert in bone marrow transplant at the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital’s Richard J. Solove Research
Institute. “She is a highly regarded clinician whose publications have provided a foundation for quality nursing practice,
and she has helped to establish numerous transplant and nursing protocols,” according to her nominator.
Many transplant centers and nursing agencies use one of her recent manuscripts as a standard of care for bone marrow transplant
patients, whose care is often complex. “Susan sets the bar high for others. She does not waiver in her position if she believes
it is best for the patient and family.” Ezzone earned a bachelor’s degree from BGSU in 1982 and a master’s degree in 1985
from Ohio State University.
Jamison, who earned her bachelor’s degree from BGSU in 1985, is a staff nurse IV in the Ambulatory Surgery Unit at Ohio State
University’s Medical Center University Hospital. She also is charge nurse, chair of the Unit Leadership Council and JCAHO
facilitator, and serves on the Manager Steering Committee and the Clinical Ladder Committee. She was recognized for her “exemplary
bedside care to perioperative patients.”

According to her nominator, “Vanessa has demonstrated a commitment to consistent, clinical decision making and excellence
in nursing. Pain management is a patient concern that Vanessa strives to continually address.” Additionally she collaborated
in a poster titled “Preoperative Strategies to Manage Anxiety and Pain” presented at the Pain Management Fair in 2006.
Mary Nash, chief nursing executive for The Ohio State University Medical Center, said the Cameos of Caring nurses are “a symbol
of the determination and perseverance that defines the best in nursing,” Through hard work, mentoring and an exceptional commitment
to their patients, these nurses have shown themselves to be exemplary representatives of the profession.
The annual awards program, which this year hosted more than 500 guests, plays a vital role in the recruitment and retention
of excellent nurses at a time when they are desperately needed, and also helps provide financial support to nurses who are
continuing their education. More than $30,000 was raised for scholarships through the 2007 program.
