Dear Alumni and Friends,
Bowling Green State University’s College of Health and Human Services touches all corners of the globe.
From research and student field trips to alumni in meaningful jobs, our students, faculty, staff and alumni are providing
outreach on the local, state, national and international level.
As you read this issue of Signature, you can catch a glimpse of how we are touching the lives of others near and far. Our
students are involved in some amazing projects that have far-reaching impact–from civic lessons at the Ohio Statehouse to
hands-on help for an orphanage in Peru. Or read about one nursing student’s initiative to do something special for children
with cancer.
Our faculty, not only teach valuable lessons to the students, but they also find time to do life-changing research. You can
learn about some of the grants our faculty have received that may result in improved techniques for helping hearing-impaired
infants or educating youth to reduce risky behaviors.
Additionally our alumni are reaching out and making a difference in their communities. We are happy to feature our five graduates
who have earned their master’s degrees in public health. They are now in leadership positions in five local health departments
handling issues as diverse as childhood immunizations and bioterrorism. We also are very proud of our College Advocate Chair
William Harper. After 30 years in the mental health services field, he recently was appointed to serve as assistant director
of the Ohio Department of Mental Health.
On behalf of the faculty, staff and students of the college, thank you for continuing to stay connected to BGSU and at the
same time reaching out to make an impact in your work, community and world. If you have stories to share how you help extend
the reach of the college, please share them with us at lpetros@bgsu.edu.
Warm Regards, Linda Petrosino, Dean
