Drawn to help the disadvantaged, Criminal justice is good foundation for busy attorney

At BGSU, Jeffrey Hyslip ’02 found exactly what he needed for success.

The managing attorney for Legal Helper’s Fair Debt Collection Practices Act Violation Office in Chicago is part of the largest bankruptcy firm in the country. At 28 years of age, he is the picture of a motivated and successful young professional.

However, at one point, as his high school career was winding down, Hyslip wasn’t even sure he wanted to attend college.  It wasn’t from a lack of ability. He recalls that he felt so unchallenged that he didn’t want to spend more time doing something that didn’t interest him.

After visiting numerous colleges and universities in Ohio, he stepped on BGSU’s campus and immediately felt differently about the possibilities.  “I don’t know why, but when I first toured campus, I just felt that I was at home,” he says. Even his mother could see a sparkle in her son’s eyes when he talked about coming to school at BGSU.
