He worked in the health field for more than 30 years, including positions as deputy director of the Mid-Ohio Health Planning Federation, associate coordinator of the Ohio Regional Medical Program at Ohio State University , chief of the Ohio Department of Education's Drug Education Program, and vice president of government relations for the Ohio Hospital Association (OHA). When he retired in 1995, he was senior vice president of government relations for OHA. He graduated from BGSU in 1953 with a degree in liberal arts education. He also earned a master's in education from BGSU in 1958.

He and his late wife, BGSU alumna Sheila Crowley Dyckes '51, have been long-time supporters of BGSU. He also served on the BGSU Board of Trustees from 1976-85.
