In addition to the many scholarships offered by various departments throughout the University, the College of Health and Human
Services has the following scholarships available for students in our college. Applications are available in our office

College of Health & Human Services Advocates Board Scholarship This scholarship is made available by the College's Advocates Board. The scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior based
on GPA, coursework completed, academic honors, leadership, community service, work experience and a written essay.
Alumni Book Award The Office of Alumni Affairs awards several book scholarships to students in our college. Any student in the college is eligible
to receive this scholarship.
Joseph K. and Virginia L. Balogh Scholarship Established in 1983 by Dr. and Mrs. Joseph K. Balogh. This scholarship is awarded to rising juniors or seniors in the College
of Health and Human Services, based on a minimum GPA of 3.2 and financial need.
Albert E. Dyckes Health Scholarship Established in 1995 by Albert E. Dyckes. This scholarship is awarded to rising senior students majoring in a health-related
profession. The scholarship is based on a minimum GPA of 3.0, academic honors, leadership positions, community service and
work experience during college
Dr. Marjorie Conrad Peatee Allied Health Profession Scholarship Established in 2007 by Dr. Marjorie Conrad Peatee, who was the first female physician and hospital chief-of-staff in Bowling
Green, Ohio. This scholarship supports a rising junior or senior majoring in an allied health professions major (e.g., applied
health science, pre-PT, pre-OT, medical technology, communication disorders, gerontology, social work, etc.).
Cynthia Walling Pemberton Scholarship Established in 2006 to support students in the Applied Health Science major within the college. The scholarship is awarded
to a rising junior or senior majoring in applied health science with the intent to pursue graduate studies in physical therapy.
Financial need is a consideration.
Dr. Albert G. Schlink Applied Health Science Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior majoring in applied health science who is enrolled at Firelands College
or who is transferring from Firelands to the College of Health and Human Services on the BGSU main campus.
Wood County Hospital Foundation Scholarship This scholarship was established as an annual award for a Wood County, Ohio resident pursuing a career in allied health care.
Rising juniors and seniors; 3.0 GPA; intend to be an intern at a Wood County facility. Preference given to a Wood County resident.
Nursing Scholarships By submitting the single nursing scholarship application, you will be considered for each of the following scholarships:
Dr. Ruth L. Kelly Alumni Nursing Scholarship Established in 1981 by Ruth L. Kelley. This scholarship is awarded to rising juniors and seniors in the Nursing Program.
The scholarship is based on a minimum GPA of 2.8, financial need and excellence in the Nursing Program. Annabelle Kinney Nursing Book Award Established in 1992 by the Black Swamp Nursing Association. This scholarship is awarded to full-time students majoring in
nursing. The scholarship is based on financial need. Preference is given to students who are residents of Wood County, OH. Nursing Foundation Scholarship Established in 1973 by nursing alumni. This scholarship is awarded to students in the Nursing Program. Olive H. Schlink Nursing Scholarship Established in 1986 by the Albert G. and Olive H. Schlink Foundation. This scholarship is awarded to students in the Nursing
Program. The scholarship is based on academic excellence and financial need.

Harold and Ivalou Bordner Scholarship in Gerontology Established in 2001 by the Harold and Ivalou Bordner Private Charitable Foundation. This scholarship is designated to full-time
undergraduate students who are ready to fulfill a practicum experience through the Gerontology program. To be eligible, the
applicant must have an approved contractual agreement with a facility located in Wood County, Ohio. Preference will be given
to students who were residents of Wood County, Ohio at the time of their initial enrollment at BGSU and/or demonstrate financial
need.
Children & Youth Social Work Scholarship Established in 1998 by Joseph and Lynn Catalano. This annual scholarship is awarded to a full-time junior and full-time senior
majoring in social work with a minimum GPA of 3.0. The scholarship is based on financial need and involvement in social work
outreach in the community and on campus.
Harold J. (Hal) McGrady Speech/Language Pathology Scholarship Established in 2006 by Dr. Harold J. McGrady. Recipients must be a rising 2nd-year master's student in Communication Disorders
who is in the school-based track and who has expressed an interest in working the school setting after graduation. Preference
is given to students that show financial need and who have demonstrated leadership and involvement in student life activities.
Application is available from Communication Disorders Department.
Andrew Lawrence Rowe Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to a full-time rising junior or senior in the College of Health & Human Services who is enrolled
in the Criminal Justice program with a minimum GPA of 3.25.
Schlink Foundation Scholarship Fund for the Health Science Residential Community This scholarship is designed to cover the surcharge for participation in the Health Science Residential Community. It is based
on financial need, based on results of the FAFSA form.
Jean Pasakarnis Buchanan Scholarship This scholarship was established in 1987and is awarded to a rising junior or senior majoring in either biology or Medical
Technology. 3.3 GPA required. Applications are available from the Biology Department.
Students are automatically considered for the following scholarships/awards. No application is necessary.
Dr. Mary McKinney Edmonds Scholarship Established in 1996 in honor of Mary McKinney Edmonds. This scholarship is awarded to rising seniors in the Applied Health
Science (Pre-Physical Therapy cognate) major who are of African-American or Chicano-American descent. The scholarship recipient
must be admitted to the Physical Therapy program at the Medical College of Ohio.
John Hiltner Gerontology Scholarship Established in 1993 by Dr. John Hiltner. This scholarship is awarded to full-time students majoring in a gerontology/long-term
care program. The scholarship is based on a minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference is given to rising juniors and seniors who demonstrate
commitment to the field outside the classroom.
Melvin Hyman Scholarship for Students This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior in Communication Disorders with a minimum GPA of 3.75 who will be attending
graduate school at BGSU.
Gerald Rigby Honor Student Award Established in 1989 by various donors in honor of Gerald Rigby. This award is given to outstanding students in the criminal
justice program who have completed at least 60 semester hours. The award is based on a minimum GPA of 3.2 overall and 3.5
in the program, commitment to the field and demonstration of excellence in academic pursuits.
Environmental Health Scholarship Fund Established in 2004 to promote the study of environmental health. This scholarship is made available to entering freshmen
Environmental Health major with at least a 3.00 high school GPA.
Multicultural Scholarship This scholarship is given to an incoming first year student from an historically underrepresented population who has indicated
the intention to pursue a degree in the College. The recipient is selected after students have attended the Orientation Program
in the summer.
The following scholarships are awarded by agencies outside of the College. Students in the College may be eligible for these,
but should consult the various agencies for more details.
Are you a sophomore? Junior? Senior? Graduate student? GPA of 2.75 or above? Applications for the Board of Trustees Leadership Scholarship are due Feb. 22. Cleveland Clinic Tuition Assistance Program for medically related majors, bachelor's or graduate degree students in allied health programs, 2.5 min GPA, due April 30.

The makers of Tylenol have scholarships available to outstanding students who are pursuing health-related studies. To apply,

Presidential Forum on Renewable Energy due Feb. 1. Submit essay on assigned topic via Web site. Applications available at www.2008energyforum.org.
GM/Frigidaire Scholarship: available to employees/dependent children of any General Motors or Delphi Division of Montgomery County, Ohio.Deadline Feb.
4. Applications can be found at www.daytonfoundation.org. Hawk Family Scholarship: graduate or permanent resident of Mentor (Ohio) school district, sophomore or higher level, 3.5 GPA, document financial
need. Deadline: Feb. 15, applications available at Student Financial Aid Office.
2008-09 Foundation Scholarship Application: One application is all you need to complete for up to 38 different scholarship funds.Applications are available online at
Wilma Johnson Kidd Nursing Scholarship applications are available from the Bowling Green Ohio Master Alpha Zeta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. Eligible students are
Wood county students majoring in nursing. Applications are available at Student Financial Aid. Deadline is April 10. Army Emergency Relief 2008-09 scholarships: for dependent children, stepchildren, or legally adopted children of Army soldiers on active duty, retired or deceased while
in active duty or retired status. Children of Grey Area Reservists/National Guard (eligible as retired members); spouses of
active or retired soldiers (see site for details). Applications and details of supporting documentation can be located at
http://www.aerhq.org. Deadline is March 1. The American Association of University Women-BG Branch makes available an annual Book Scholarship of no less than $200 to women who demonstrate financial need and are permanent
residents of Wood County. Applicants must have completed at least one year of study in a degree program. Non-traditional female
applicants who have returned to school to finish or begin a degree or retrain who use BG or Wood County as their permanent
address will be given preference. This year, we are pleased to announce that two $600 scholarships will be available. The

Community Foundation of Shelby County: numerous scholarship opportunities for students from Shelby County and adjoining counties. Applications can be found at
http://www.commfoun.com or at the SFA office, and are due either March 28 or June 2, depending on the scholarship fund.
The Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission announces the availability of the TG Public Benefit Award for the 2008-09 academic year. ORSC will award a minimum of 25,
$2,000 awards. Eligible students are students who have open post-secondary training cases with ORSC, and may be either BVR
or BSVI customers, are currently enrolled in any class status of post-secondary education in Ohio, and must have a minimum
2.8 CGPA. Applications are available at the SFA office. Deadline is May 1.
The Society for Public Health Education, Inc. (SOPHE), Ohio Chapter, announces the $1,000 Karen H. Evans Memorial Scholarship to be awarded to an outstanding health
education major enrolled in a college or university health education program in Ohio. Two scholarships for the 2008-2009
academic year will be awarded, one undergraduate and one graduate. Please encourage your students to apply! The applicant
must:
1. Be a full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in a community health education/promotion program
in an accredited college or university in Ohio, and 2. Have plans to work in a community or public health setting, and 3. Be a permanent resident of Ohio, and 4. Have a minimum 3.0 overall GPA (On a 4.0 scale) at all institutions of higher education attended, and 5. Complete an application form and mail it, along with an official transcript and letter of recommendation from a health
education faculty member, to Ohio SOPHE.
Application and other required information must be postmarked by April 15, 2008. THE COLLEGE OF HHS ADVISING OFFICE 102 HEALTH CENTER HAS COPIES OF THE APPLICATION.
This scholarship money will go directly to the students and can be applied to any education associated expenses. The scholarship
winners will be announced by the end of May 2008. In addition, the winners will each receive a one year student membership
to Ohio SOPHE, and assistance to attend the Health Educator’s Institute in October 2008, where the scholarship will be awarded.
