The Program
The Department of Political Science is committed to applied graduate education primarily through the Master of Public Administration
(MPA) program. The program attracts students from national and international sources; stimulates the research productivity
of the faculty, particularly in integrative and applied research important to the needs of Northwest Ohio, the state of Ohio,
the nation, and the international community; aids in the recruitment of highly skilled faculty; and brings state and national
prestige and recognition to the department and the University.
The MPA, which places an emphasis on rural and small local governments, offers a core curriculum and a number of areas of
specialization. The degree is designed to meet the needs for skilled public administrators in government and public sector
agencies, businesses, private foundations and other related organizations. The program also offers educational training for
future careers in teaching and consulting.
The department is committed to making its graduate education programs, applied research, services and faculty available to
rural and local governments and agencies in Northwest Ohio through the Center for Governmental Research and Public Service.
