The major function of the Graduate College is to motivate and educate persons to be independent intellectual leaders in their
professions and in research. The goal of graduate education is to develop the resourcefulness and responsibility of post-baccalaureate
students by furthering their ability to effectively handle the materials and affairs of their fields of study and to use critically
the reports of others.
Under the leadership of the Vice Provost for Research and Graduate Dean, the Graduate College carries out University and faculty
policies regarding graduate education and research. It has oversight responsibilities for graduate program quality, and the
recruitment and admission of high caliber graduate students. The Graduate College also appoints the graduate faculty, and
allocates graduate student assistantship funds to Colleges and Departments, prepares graduate assistantship contracts, and
disburses special research funds.

The Vice Provost for Research and Dean of the Graduate College (VPR/Graduate Dean), reports directly to the Provost and Vice
President for Academic Affairs. As stated in The Academic Charter, the duties of this position include responsibility for:
"providing academic leadership to ensure that the highest possible quality is achieved and maintained in the teaching, research,
and degree-granting functions of the Graduate College"; and "coordinating the operations of the Graduate College with those
of other units of the University and of agencies outside of the University."

The associate dean is responsible for promoting research and research collaboration, dealing with matters related to graduate
student academic progress and graduate program development.

The Information Manager is responsible for designing systems and managing timely, accurate information for support, tracking,
and success of prospective and enrolled graduate students. Additionally, designs and oversees implementation of data systems
to aid the growth of the BGSU research endeavor which involves disseminating information about faculty expertise, research
productivity, research facilities, federal and non-federal grants and contracts, and the potential for technology transfer.

The Student Records Team (SRT) is composed of six student services counselors who monitor and process graduate student records from the prospective inquiry
and application for admission through graduation. Each SRT member is responsible for all of the student records within specified
graduate degree programs.
The SRT members process applications, write contracts for assistantships, monitor progress toward a degree, check for Tentative
Degree Programs, process incompletes and grade changes, handle topic approval forms for theses and dissertations, verify language
requirements (when appropriate), check for human subjects research approval, verify exams, and verify records prior to graduation.
The SRT members function as a liaison between the student and department. They personally assist graduate students and departments
in following the procedures that lead to successful degree completion. Listed below are each member and their corresponding
