Spacer Submission & Approval of your Manuscript Spacer

PLEASE READ THIS SECTION VERY CAREFULLY.

Please be sure that the document you are submitting has been thoroughly proofed for both content as well as formatting and typographical errors. The Graduate College does not take responsibility for any errors in your document--we do not have the resources to provide an editing service. Minimal checks are made to ensure you have used the templates provided and have followed the formatting specified in the Thesis/Dissertation Handbook. Once the document has been approved for publication by OhioLINK, changes and modifications to the manuscript cannot be made.

Document Preparation - Work with your committee to develop and execute the research and write your thesis or dissertation. Specific formatting requirements are contained in the Thesis/Dissertation Handbook.

Convert your document to PDF - Please see the instructions for converting your document.

Required Forms - When the manuscript is in the final form required by the committee, the student secures the signatures of the thesis/dissertation committee members and the graduate coordinator on the ETD Submission Form. A copy of the manuscript title page and abstract must be attached to this form and submitted to the Graduate College by the posted deadline each semester. Your manuscript will not be reviewed or approved until the ETD Submission/Approval Form has been signed by your committee and received in the Graduate College. Doctoral students are also strongly encouraged to complete the Survey of Earned Doctorates and forward it to the Graduate College prior to graduation. For more information on the SED, please read the Privacy Policy and Information Brochure.

The Microfilm Agreement form is no longer required since OhioLINK automatically forwards the dissertation to ProQuest (formerly University Microfilms International). However, if you wish to have ProQuest process the copyright for your document, please complete the Authorization to Apply for Registration of My Claim to Copyright and attach a certified check or money order (no personal checks, please) made out to PQIL/UMI for $65 (BGSU does not bill you for this charge). Send both the form and certified check/money order directly to:

ProQuest
789 E. Eisenhower Pkwy
P.O. Box 1346
Ann Arbor, MI 48106-1346

Contrary to the statement on the UMI Release page on the OhioLINK submission, the Graduate College does not process the charges for copyrighting. It is your responsibility to forward payment for the copyrighting directly to UMI. In addition, you must indicate on the UMI Release section when submitting your electronic manuscript that you wish to have UMI register your copyright. If you do not select this option, PQIL will not process your copyright request. NOTE: master's theses are not sent to PQIL for microfilming.

You may also order reprints of your dissertation from PQIL. Please note, however, it may take an extremely long time to receive these copies due to the large numbers of manuscripts being processed by PQIL. You may also want to refer to the Binding Services web page located on the Library's web site for other options for binding your document.

Submitting your manuscript to OhioLINK - Once your manuscript has been defended, approved by your thesis or dissertation committee, and converted to a PDF document, you are ready to upload it to OhioLINK. Complete upload instructions are available from the link below.

Please use caution when completing the abstract section on the OhioLINK site. You may need to replace special characters or formatting before you copy and paste your abstract information.

It is suggested that once you have submitted your manuscript to OhioLINK, you should try to download the document from the OhioLINK server to make sure that the upload process was successful. If you receive a "Bad or corrupt file" error message while downloading, please contact the ETD Coordinator for assistance.

Approval of your ETD - Once the file has been uploaded to OhioLINK, and the ETD Approval/Submission form has been received in the Graduate College, the ETD Coordinator will review the PDF document. If any problems are discovered with your ETD or PDF document, you will be contacted as soon as possible to resolve any issues before approval is granted. Upon final approval by the Graduate College, your electronically submitted thesis or dissertation will become immediately available for download from the OhioLINK web site.

OhioLINK will forward doctoral dissertations to UMI for archiving purposes. Both master's and doctoral manuscripts will be cataloged in the BGSU Libraries.
