Spacer Converting your Document to PDF Spacer

A tutorial is now available to assist you with converting your thesis or dissertation to a PDF file. Created by Ohio State University with support from Adobe, this tutorial will guide you through each step of the process. Included with each exercise is a demo video that allows you to watch the tasks being performed.

After converting your manuscript to PDF, you will be able to make minor modifications (specify document properties, change page numbering, move, insert or delete pages, etc.) by using a version of Adobe Acrobat Professional. The computer labs on campus have Adobe Acrobat Professional installed on the computers. A 30-day trial version of Adobe Acrobat Professional can be downloaded to your personal computer if you are unable to access the University computer labs.

Here's a tip: Be sure to use the templates provided for your title page, abstract, and table of contents. DO NOT COMBINE THESE DOCUMENTS into one document using your word processing software. Keep the documents separate and convert each one to PDF format. Once each document has been converted to PDF, then combine them into one document using Adobe Acrobat. By doing it this way, you will not lose the pagination for each section.

Once your document has been successfully converted to PDF format, please insert bookmarks within your document for ease of navigation. This is a requirement, regardless of your discipline's publishing conventions. Update Document Properties as described. Also, be sure that any hyperlinks are active and work correctly. Adjust page numbers to match your own document. For assistance, consult the tutorial or Adobe Acrobat Help.

For additional assistance or specific questions, contact the ETD Coordinator.

By using the templates below, the required pagination will be retained. It is suggested that you save each of the documents to your desktop or disk before making any modifications.
