master of Education in Reading

 

For educators aspiring to improve their knowledge, skills, and dispositions relative to literacy development across the grades (Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12) and to provide services as a reading specialist and/or literacy coach. The specific goal of the program is to prepare teachers to provide specialized reading and writing instruction, to assess and diagnose literacy behavior, and to serve as resource persons in P-12 settings. Students may choose from Plan I (thesis) or Plan II (action research project). Candidates must complete a minimum of 39 semester hours of graduate credit and successfully complete the Praxis II content examination. The following course work is required: EDTL 610, 620, 621, 622, 624, 626, 627, 628, 629 and 640. Plan I (Thesis) includes EDFI 641, EDTL 644 and EDTL 699.  Plan II (Action Research Project) includes EDFI 641, EDTL 644 and EDTL 684.
