Early Childhood Education Generalist Endorsement for Grades 4 and 5
- Information:
- The Early Childhood Generalist Endorsement for Grades 4 and 5 is for teachers with an Early Childhood Education (Prekindergarten-3) license or teacher candidates enrolled in coursework to earn an ECE license The endorsement allows Early Childhood Education teachers to add grades 4 and 5 to an ECE license. The admission requirements for the courses include:
- Current ECE license-holders must provide a copy of their valid teaching license
- Current undergraduate teacher candidates must pass Block II methods courses with a C or higher before taking Early Childhood Generalist Endorsement classes.
- The ECE endorsement consists of five classes (15 credit hours). The courses may be taken at the undergraduate or the graduate level. For those taking the courses at the graduate level, a BGSU Certificate may be earned through the Graduate College. The five ECE 4/5 endorsement courses are:
- EDTL 4500/5500: Teaching About Ohio and the Americas: Content and Pedagogy in the Intermediate Social Studies Classroom
- EDTL 4501/5501: Upper Elementary Math Instruction
- EDTL 4502/5502: Upper Elementary Science Instruction
- EDTL 4503/5503: Upper Elementary Language Arts Instruction
- HDFS 4504/5504: Development and Learning in Grades 4 and 5.
- Courses are offered in face-to-face and online formats.
- To obtain the Early Childhood Generalist Endorsement for Grades 4 and 5, the applicant must pass all courses with a C or higher and must pass the Praxis II Content Knowledge Test (0014).

Middle Childhood Generalist Endorsement
- Information:
- The Middle Childhood Generalist Endorsement is available to undergraduates majoring in Middle Childhood education and to practicing teachers holding an Ohio Middle Childhood Education license. This endorsement allows teachers to add one-to-two academic areas to their licenses, enabling them to teach the added subjects in grades 4-6.
- Endorsement classes may be taken at the undergraduate or graduate level.
- The Middle Childhood Generalist Endorsement requires a minimum of six credit hours per subject area. Typically, classes are offered both online and in face-to-face settings. Undergraduate courses are offered on a variable schedule throughout the academic year. Graduate classes are offered primarily in the summer, though a few are offered online in the spring.
- Candidates take courses in one or two subject areas in which they are not currently licensed. For example, a math/science major might take language arts and/or social studies courses.
- The Middle Childhood Generalist Endorsement is available to undergraduates majoring in Middle Childhood education and to practicing teachers holding an Ohio Middle Childhood Education license. This endorsement allows teachers to add one-to-two academic areas to their licenses, enabling them to teach the added subjects in grades 4-6.
- After completion of the required coursework, candidates for the Middle Childhood Generalist Endorsement must pass the Praxis II Elementary Content Knowledge Test (0014). Candidates must also maintain a 2.8 GPA in their endorsement classes.

- The P-12 Reading Endorsement consists of 15 graduate credit hours. Usually, classes are offered online and in in-class settings. During the summer, the reading endorsement classes are offered in an institute format.

Mathematics Specialist Endorsement
- Information
- This endorsement is for degree-holding teachers who want to obtain a P-6 mathematics certificate. To be admitted to the Graduate P-6 Mathematics Specialist Endorsement Certificate program, the candidate must hold a license/certificate in Early Childhood, Middle Childhood Mathematics, or Adolescent Mathematics and have at least three years of successful experience in teaching mathematics.
- The program consists of 18-21 credit hours. In a typical scenario, the program is expected to take three semesters. Refer to the program checksheet for more specific information.

Science Endorsement Certificate
- Information
- This endorsement is for degree-holding teachers who want to obtain a P-9 science endorsement. To be admitted to the Science Specialist Endorsement program, candidates must hold a license/certificate in Early Childhood, Middle Childhood Science, or Adolescent Science. Additionally, candidates must must submit evidence of successful passage of the Praxis II or PLT as well as written documentation of at least three years of successful experience in teaching science.

Technology Endorsement Certificate
- Information
- The Graduate Computer Technology Endorsement Certificate (16 hours) may be earned apart from completing the entire Master's degree. Teachers with this endorsement will be prepared to not only provide leadership capabilities for local, state or national educational technology initiatives but also will be licensed to teach computer science courses, K-12. Students may apply for the Computer Technology Endorsement from the Ohio Department of Education after completing the 16 hours of coursework identified for this credential.
- The Master of Education in Classroom Technology and the Graduate Computer Technology Endorsement Certificate are offered to cohorts, groups of students who begin the program together and progress through the sequence of courses together. One on-campus cohort of 18-20 students is admitted each year and begins coursework in the fall. Off-campus cohorts are periodically started in various locations throughout northwest Ohio, and as online cohorts, as resources allow. Coursework for both the Master's degree or the Computer Technology Endorsement may be taken completely online.
- The Technology Endorsement Certificate coursework consists of 16 credit hours.
